Sherman Wirrell founded Shoreline in 1859 as a small farming village on Tacoma Bayou near present-day Tacoma; he named it for his father General John Sherman Wirrell (1824-1892). The original settlers were primarily Scottish immigrants who arrived by ship in early 1860s looking for land beyond what they could purchase from native Indians. By 1870, most of the settlers had moved away from their original villages to establish new ones along Tacoma Bayou or elsewhere within King County due to difficulties obtaining land beyond contemporary boundaries: only about 10% of shorelines developed during that time period were located within today's borders (Swanson 2003). In 1887, when Shoreline became an incorporated town with 514 residents and no naval dockyards nearby like those now existing on Puget Sound waterfronts (due to US Naval construction projects), many local businesses closed down because they did not have enough customers coming into town during daytime hours compared to the availability at night when sailors ashore needed goods and services (Fletcher 2009). The townsite name comes from English "shore" meaning "beautiful beach" while "linen" means "cloth". At first there were no buildings other than log homes built by settlers themselves using whatever materials could be found around them; these earliest structures include one large log cabin dating back to 1865 which still stands today as part of Northwest Folk Museum collection (#2). From this basecamp operations gradually grew more advanced including growing wheat, chickens eggs and butter pastured over open prairies until later dairy production started up too – milk being particularly important for restaurant patrons in those days! A cotton gin was also set up soon afterward (#4), followed by several tanneries butchery businesses before lumber mills came online starting up around 1900 producing heavy grades lumber such as pine and white oak which provided much needed support during Seattle's summertime boom years known as "the silent season". However all this activity eventually led to social unrest typical among frontier society where menfolk fought each other over accessorial rights such as water rights or fishing privileges leading eventually to things such as outright war between rival communities culminating in Massacre Creek War in 1907...This event remains oneof history's darkest moments ever experienced within our modern day Western Civilization! One can only imagine how difficult life must have been back then for everyday folks struggling against seemingly insurmountable odds just trying survive…?!? However despite these dark times “home” never got too far away from shoreliner’s thoughts & prayers especially after WWI when many military veterans relocated here upon returning home… even going so far as erecting Shipshore Park next door (& adjoining) unto today’s downtown Shor Elfin District…. Today we continue our traditions & values that date back centuries old & continue providing strength & hope through Service Learning opportunities offered thruOUT THE COMMUNITY!

Today's waterfront businesses include: Microsoft corporate headquarters; Boeing Everett Factory; Starbucks coffee shop; Dick’s Sporting Goods store; Safeway supermarket; and Northwest Airlines terminal 4L/5R (formerly Sea-Tac Airport). Mariners' Museum also occupies some land adjacent to downtown that once housed Puget Sound Naval Shipyards
