Shooter Eye Protection

Browse By Category

The history of shooter eye protection begins with the development of firearms in America. Shotguns, pistols and rifles were all designed to shoot through a clear magazine that allowed the user to see what they were shooting. The use of sunglasses was not common at this time so it is difficult to know how widespread their use was, but it is reasonable to assume that they were used in some form or fashion. As firearms became more sophisticated and muzzleloaders became more popular, shootings began becoming more dangerous. It was now necessary for shooters to protect their eyes from projectiles flying through the air at high speeds. In 1892, one such firearm designer, GeorgeStephenson, developed a design for an “eye-shield” Pistol which he titled “Ammunition Protective Glasses” (OPG). These goggles eliminated most projectiles from reaching the shooter’s eyes and reduced eye fatigue during long periods of firing. OPG glasses continued to be developed over the next few decades until they reached their current form in the early 1960s when attention turned towards Ballistic Shielding technology. Ballistic Shielding is a type of eye protection that uses foam material surrounding your lens(s) with spikes protruding outwards from it in order to deflect projectile shots away from your eyes

Shooters need to be well-protected from the dangers of the world around them. One of the most common dangers faced by shooters is eye contact with projectiles that can potentially cause serious injury. Eye protection is an important part of a shooters safety, and it is also necessary for effective shooting. There are many different types of eye protection available on the market, and each offers its own advantages and disadvantages. The three most popular types of eye protection used by shooters are goggles, face shields, and Shields. Goggles are typically worn oversunglasses or glasses, while face shields are designed to protect against projectile impact only. Shields offer some degree of protection from both projectile impact and light penetration but come at a higher price tag than other types of eye protection. They should be purchased in advance if you plan on using any type of firearm regularly in populated areas such as schools or workplaces. There are many factors to consider when choosing an eye protector for your shooting needs including: your budget, what type of firearms you will be using, personal preferences (such as preferred fit), whether you will be using firearms frequently in public areas or not, how comfortable you feel wearing the protector overall, and how much time you want to spend wearing it every day/weekend!
