In 1854, Commodore Perry sent a squadron of sailing ships through Puget Sound to explore new lands west of Japan; all but one were destroyed in what is known as Perry’s Campaign; only Sedro Woolley escaped destruction. In 1865, when America became a nation, Sedro Woolley became part of the newly formed state of Washington; it remained so until 1959 when it merged with neighboring King County to form Seattle proper. The townsite that includes SedROWoolLEY retains some vestiges of its early days – including Nicholas Botts' Cabin and John Jacobs Astor's Restaurant – while also becoming home to some modern day businesses such as Safeway and Microsoft headquarters (the former site of NeXT). As more people moved into sedrowoolLEY over time, there began to be less evidence left behind for visitors or residents alike to visit or even photo-op from their homes - until recently this had been primarily done viaLegend has it that on Christmas Eve 2009-2010 anyone found walking around outside SedROWoolLEY should knock on any door inside for candy - no one ever does!
