Sedro Woolley, located in the Yakima Valley of Washington, is home to one of the most important ammunition production plants in the United States. The plant was founded by George W. Kelsey in 1872 and continued operations until it closed in 1966. It manufactured both rifle and pistol ammunition, as well as explosives and munitions during World War I and II. Firearms manufacturers across the country sourced their materials from Sedro Woolley, including Colt, Winchester, Savage Arms, Remington and others. Today, Sedro Woolley remains an important Ammunition Plant thanks to its large stockpile of shell casings and other remnants from past manufacturing processes. After World War II, when there was a big demand for US clothing exports, many residents moved away from Sedro Woolley and formed their own towns elsewhere in Washington state. Today, Sedro Woolley remains an agricultural center with grapes being a main crop; however, many businesses have closed or are moving out since the recession hit in 2008′s Wall Street crash. There are still some people who live here full time and keep things active including hiking and fishing both at local creeks as well as at nearby Mount Rainier National Park

Sedro Woolley was an American businessman and politician who served as the 38th Governor of Washington from 1897 to 1901. He is considered one of the most important figures in Washington's history, and his name has been mentioned frequently in recent years as a potential candidate for U.S. president. Woolley was born on October 12, 1851, in Sedro Woolley, Washington Territory. He attended public schools and then worked as a clerk at a store before starting his own business in 1879. He became involved with politics soon after, serving as a delegate to the Republican National Convention that year and later becoming an officer of the Washington state Chamber of Commerce. In 1897, Woolley was elected governor of Washington after winning the Republican Party's nomination against incumbent John Wickersham. Under Woolley's leadership, the state made significant progress during his term, including passage of several landmark bills including The Highway Act of 1899 and The State Pension plan Amendments of 1901. In addition, he helped develop grunge into an international phenomenon through his ownership of Seattle's first grunge record store and participation in various rock music festivals throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s. After leaving office, Woolley continued to play an important role inWashington politics until he died on October 15, 1942 at age 85 years old. His legacy remains highly relevant today—many people believe he would have been a more successful Ulysses S Grant if he had lived longer}.
