Sedro Woolley (March 14, 1786 – October 12, 1857) was an American politician and farmer from the town of Sedro Woolley in King County, Washington. He served as a member of the Washington State House of Representatives from 1824 to 1830 and then as a justice of the peace for King County from 1830 to 1845. Woolley was born in Sedro Woolley on March 14, 1786. He married Anna Maria Sprague in 1800 and they had three children: Anna Maria (1801-1860), John Sprague Woolley (1802-1893), and Mary Sprague Woolley (1804-1936). After his death in 1857, his widow continued to live in Sedro WoolLEY until her death in 1960. In 1860, he became the first person ever elected as Mayor of Sedro Woolley. He also served as President of the Washtenaw County Agricultural Society from 1840 to 1859 and trustee of Mount Vernon Seminary from 1850 to 1861.

Sedro Woolley was an American political scientist and historian who served as the ninth Mayor of Seattle from 1959 to 1966. He is best known for his work on local government in the United States and for promoting relations between the United States and its neighbors. Woolley was born in 1911 in Spokane, Washington, to a family of farmers. After completing high school, he studied at Whitman College in San Francisco before returning home to attend Pacific University in Tacoma. In 1938, Woolley earned his degree from Stanford University with a degree in history. Upon graduation, he worked as a research associate at UCLA before becoming an instructor at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) in Tacoma. From 1951 until 1954, Woolley also served as an adjunct professor at Washington State University (WSU). In 1957, Woolley won election to serve as Mayor of Seattle after being appointed by then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower. During his term as mayor, woolley promoted citywide public works projects such as the construction of new parks and libraries while also increasing funding for city services such as police and fire protection. Additionally, he helped achieve better relations between the United States and its neighbors through his work on behalf of US foreign policy interests. In 1966, following his retirement from politics, woolley became president of The Washington Institute for Public Affairs (TWIPA). TWIPA provides education opportunities for young people interested in issues surrounding American democracy and public opinion within the United States
Sedro Woolley was a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington state, United States. It is now part of the city of Yakima. The first European to visit Sedro Woolley was Captain George Vancouver in 1792. He named it "Woolley" after his landlord, John Woolley, who had resided there since before British Columbia became a colony. In 1820, the town (then known as Wenatchee) was platted by Samuel Merrill and James McMillan and became part of the larger city of Yakima. In 1853, the town name was changed to Sedro Woolley after woolen fabric manufacturer Isaac Sedro Woolley II (1786-1863). Sedro Woolley's post office opened on December 1st, 1854. The first store in town was built on what is now 5th Avenue South; it closed in 1958. It continued to be served by mail until 1978 when its ZIP code came into effect and allmail stopped being delivered here entirely.
