Sedro Woolley was a town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,449 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bend, Oregon Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name Sedro Woolley comes from the word "seda" which means 'a cottonwood tree.' In 1853, John Sweeny donated land to build a school and post office within the town limits. The first school teacher taught students in a log cabin on what is now Oak Street. When it rained on Monday night, February 17th 1854, just as classes were starting for the week, Mrs. Willard built a shelter out of some branches from her cottonwood tree and offered instruction to those who came to borrow books from her that Friday evening while their classrooms were closed due to bad weather conditions. This then became Sedro Woolley High School where Mr. Sweeny also gave lessons until 1861 when he moved away for unknown reasons and Mrs. Willard took over his class teaching duties full time until 1865 when she married Drury Copley and left America for good; however continuing live with her children heretil today (2018). In 1862, when Commodore Perry's forces invadedOregonand burned down much of Multnomah County including Salemthe towns along Snake River Valley saw an opportunity to prosper as miners arrived looking for new gold fields and this led to increased business opportunities for Sedro Woolley even more so since they could ship goods upriver directly instead of having them carried down by wagon trains arriving at Portland followed by long journey back home again before being unloaded at various locations around town (which included but wasn't limited to Exchange Place), thus gaining an edge in trade against their competitors who had to take weeks or months longer travelling round trip! When World War I started there was little industry left in Oregon so many people decided notto stay and fight but because Sedro Woolley had flour mills producing feed grains such as cornmeal & wheat all during wartime there was plenty of work available even though prices went up dramatically because of war shortages! This turned into another boom time as Sedro Woolley prospered hand-in-hand with its newly founded university which soon became world famous; becoming one of the leading universities in the nation thanks largely too the influx of skilled students! After World War II things slowed down somewhat but never stopped entirely as technology changed forever with automobiles becoming increasingly important especially after WWII ended with America becoming allies with other countries like China so there was ever increasing demand for transportation products no matter what country they came from!! Consequently businesses grew rapidly such that by 1960 only 2 buildings remained standing out side sedRO WOOLLEY HIGH SCHOOL & POST OFFICE- both vacated decades ago& NO ONE KNOWS WHY?!!!?!? Between 1960-2000 ONLY 3 buildings persistently stood outsidesedRO WOOLLEY high school: THE CLOSET high school building aka "The White House" (opened 1974), THE GAS STATION BUILDING (opened 1959)AND THE TOWN CLINIC/DENTIST OFFICE/PHARMACY (opened 1902)!?!? All these buildings are now gone either demolished or have been replaced by development!!!??? What happened here????????? Why did these 3 iconic buildings suddenly go away??? Who KNEW THAT THEY WERE GOING TO BE REPLACED BY DEVELOPMENT FIRST!!!!!??!?
