During WWII other products such as automobiles were produced at nearby Burbank Proving Ground but these facilities ceased operations after Pearl Harbor because they were immediately converted into military factories used primarily for producing munitions! Steel manufacturing resumed after World War II but it remained low key until 1978 when Grumman Aircraft Corporation bought Boeing Defense Services whose components formed Grumman Aerospace Systems LLC which designs missiles! Finally auto parts manufacturing returned with Douglas Aircraft Corporation beginning manufacture of airframe parts at Malmstrom AFB before moving downstream into engine production starting with CFM/Designer engines! These companies have greatly contributed to today’s aerospace industry!
