This ordinance effectively bannedgun violence in Seattle until 1949 when it was amended to allow shooting of small game such as quail without having a license from the Department of Fish and Game. Seattle is a city in the state of Washington. It has a population of over 900,000 people and is the largest city in Puget Sound. Seattle's rich history dates back to 1851 when it was founded as a tiny trading post on Elliott Bay by fishermen from Tacoma. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th century, becoming one of America's most populous and economically powerful cities. In recent decades, Seattle has become a center for culture, technology, and professional sports. The city is known for its natural beauty, including parks, beaches, and gardens; its dense urban environment; and its lively public life. Seattle was first settled by Native Americans in the area that now includes downtown Seattle. The first European to visit what is now Seattle was Juan De Fuca in 1792 while exploring British Columbia. In 1851, fishermen from Tacoma founded the small trading post at Elliott Bay with help from local farmers and businessmen. The town quickly became an important port on Puget Sound due to its location near Elliott Bay and the abundance of seafood available in the region. The early years of Seattle were difficult for both residents and businesses because of lack of infrastructure or access to necessary resources such as water or land. However, through hard work and determination, some early pioneers managed to establish their businesses here until World War II sealed off much of downtown from development until Everett took over as downtown's first mayor in 1959 following plans by then-mayor Norm Rice (D). After years of planning by successive mayors—most notably Jay Cooke (R)—the present day skyline was completed when construction began on Interstate 5 southbound between First Avenue South and Pike Street South in 1964 after voters approved Proposition 1A which funded much needed road improvements around town following an outbreak of wild fires in 1962 which destroyed many homes but did not damage any major landmarks such as Pioneer Square or Union Station (now called Microsoft Building). During this time period there also existed several other significant events which have shaped modern day Seattle: Eastside Park opened in 1959 adjacent to Alki Beach across Lake Union; King County created King County Services Authority effective January 1st 1960 providing countywide services with central headquarters located at 425 Fourth Ave NW; Construction began on Boeing’s new $5 billion factory site just southwest of Downtown along 47th Street SW – now home to Amazon Web Services – leading directly to today’s Ballard neighborhood; demolition began on Queen Anne’s Gothic styled buildings starting November 6th 1954 concurrent with streetcars running down Market Alley into Ballard making it possible for pedestrians/ cyclists/ motorists all along Admiral Way Nearing Northlake started February 15th 1957 continuing northwesterly past Occidental Avenue opening up what are today Greenwood Village neighborhoods towards Northcenter Historic District succeeding streetcar operations ended December 31st 1956 resulting in increased auto traffic congestion Nowadays many people consider Downtown Seahawks Neighborhood better described as "new Ballard" although there are still plenty sidewalks within walking distance
