The United States Navy's Naval Air Station at Seattle–Tacoma (NAS Point Defiance) was opened in 1940, and NAS Northwest also became operational that year. With the opening of both facilities came increased development in the area around them, including the construction of shopping centers and hotels. In 1958, NAS Northwest was renamed NAS Washington State when it became part of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This gave rise to another nickname for NAS: "The Pentagon of Aerospace Defense". From this point forward until 1991, NAS Washington State operated as an integral part of NASA's Earth Science Division. In 1991, though, it merged with other NASA divisions to become Headquarters for all space activities within NASA. After years of growth and development at home and abroad within NOAA's Environmental Research Laboratory (ERSL), seatac elected to establish their own municipally funded Airport Authority on November 3rd 1932 effective January 1st 1933 under Mayor Smedley Butler who had been elected two years earlier on December 10th 1931 after serving three terms as Deputy County Auditor/Commissioner for Aviation Services with responsibility for codes & regulations; airmail service; passenger terminals; terminal maintenance; fuel sales; customs inspections &Registration renewal procedures etc.; while City Manager Eben Upton supervised Planning Department & Streets Department
Seatac is an unincorporated community in King County, Washington. The post office at Seatac was established in 1887, and discontinued in 1961. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,834.

The first European to explore and settle the Puget Sound region was Juan de Fuca, who sailed from Spain on July 4, 1804. He named the sound Juan de Fuca after himself. The land that now includes Seatac was part of what is now British Columbia. In 1855, a group of American settlers led by John McLoughlin crossed the Canada–US border at Fort Nisqually and founded the town of Tacoma. They were followed two years later by a group led by George Vancouver, who named the sound Colville because he found several springs there. After exploring parts of Washington Territory, Vancouver decided to create a new province out of what are now King County and Pierce County in 1861. The name for this new province was Washington Territory, but it was changed to Washington State in 1865 when Territorial Affairs became part of state government under Ulysses S. Grant’s presidency. Seatac residents first started arriving in numbers during the Gold Rush period in 1850-1900 due to concerns about goldfields potential located near Fort Nisqually and elsewhere along theSound Ridge corridor (now called Interstate 5). By 1870-1871, over 7500 people had settled at Seatac including many farmers, miners and lumberjacks who had rushed into the area following discovery of rich gold fields around Port Gamble Lake and other areas in central Puget Sound. At its peak during World War I seatac had an estimated population of 25000 people with businesses such as hotels, groceries stores and transportation links with Seattle or Olympia. The community rapidly declined after World War II as various industries relocated away or closed down in response to competition from other cites within Washington State or outside North America altogether; however recent development has brought renewed interest with plans for an annual Aspen Music Festival at Seatac Stadium which would bring 40000 visitors to town each year!
The first post office in Seatac was opened in 1892. The town of Seatac was organized on November 6, 1892. The name "Seatac" was given to the township by General George Washington Carver.
