The first school in Seatac was built in 1896 by white parents of black children who were sent there for education purposes in order to provide better opportunities for their children than they would have had if they lived elsewhere near Seattle or Tacoma (then part of King County). The school closed enrollment in 1907 but reopened two years later after new construction increased enrollment by 50%.
