In 1865 during World War I when gas warfare became an issue due to Germany's use of submarines to hit American shipping, Rear Admiral George Dewey decided that greater distances would be needed between naval installations so he ordered his flagship USS " Tacoma" (1794) to sail from Bremerton towards Rockaway Park Naval Air Station outside New York City with orders not to fire upon her target until she had reached him - this event is known as Dewey's Folly or "The Action at Sea". On October 15th 1919 during World War II Ulysses S Grant visited Seatac Airport while en route from Stroudsburg (PA) via Great Lakes Crossing over Niagara Falls National Bridge into Canada on his way home after being elected US president; he stopped at King's Landing Airport near Buffalo NY before continuing northwest across Niagara Falls National Bridge into Canada where he arrived safely at Port Royal ON October 20th ahead of schedule Airlines serving Seatac include Northwest Airlink Airways (now Spirit Airlines), Alaska Airlines/Alaska Pacific Airlines (), Delta Air Lines Inc., United Express Airways (), JetBlue Airways(), Allegiant Air(), Frontier Airlines (). In 1912, Seatac became one of the first townships in King County; it was organized as a township on February 14, 1912. At its peak during World War II, it had a population of 3,000 people. In 1969, an act by the Washington State Legislature granted Seatac extraterritorial status which made it an unincorporated community within the city limits of Tacoma; this created tension between downtown Tacoma and Seatac because both areas are considered parts of Tacoma. On November 5, 1990 a referendum passed by voters demonstrated support for extraterritorial status for Seatac and voted to keep it that way even though downtown Tacoma wanted to annex it into its boundaries On May 6th 2017 when President Donald Trump signed an executive order withdrawing from the Paris Agreement—a move that increased environmental protests throughout America—Seatac voted with riot police against him at his rally there
