The first ballistic peepers were invented in 1868 by Major John Brownell of the United States Army. These devices allowed troops to see through walls of fog to detect enemy positions. The first true rifle scopes appeared in the 1870s, but they were only used for artillery purposes and were not practical for use with rifles. In 1892, a rifleScope was patented by George Catlin which allowed shooters to adjust their sights on a rifle using a knobs on the side of the scope. This helped make it possible for infantrymen to engage targets at far distances with accuracies that would have been impossible before. Rifle scopes became more common in World War II as machineguns became more prevalent and needed greater accuracy than earlier weapons. By the end of World War II, sniper rifles had become an important part of military strategy and sniper scopes became popular among these soldiers as they could now hit targets from great distances without being targeted by enemy snipers or artillery units. Sniper scopes continue to be used today for target practice and other applications such as precision bombardment.
Seatac is a small town in Washington State. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and one of the six original towns in the county. Seatac was founded in 1851 by brothers Isaac and George Seaton, who named it for their father-in-law, Major General George Armstrong Custer. The first post office in Seatac was established on December 5, 1851, by order of Governor John Kapp. The name "Seatac" was chosen because it would be easily remembered by those living there. The first store opened in 1857. In 1870, a schoolhouse and jail were built on what is now Main Street; both buildings remain standing today. In 1899, an express road connecting Seattle to Tacoma was proposed through Seatac; however, no vote ever took place to build it because of opposition from local farmers who claimed that the road would make them too rich while allowing development near their homes without regard to their wishes or needs. On November 17, 1922–the date which remains commemorated as "Election Day" in Washington State–a special election was held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Judge James Aiken (1889-1962). At that time only men could serve on juries so women were not allowed to participate fully in elections until 1990 when they were given voting rights under state law. The result showed that women had made strides since then and despite some challenges won many seats including becoming members of both houses of the Washington state legislature as well as being elected mayor of Seatac two times beginning with 2004 before she resigned due to term limits set by her city council colleagues In 2008 Mayor Kelly ran for re-election but lost after gaining just over 50% percent of the vote against incumbent Dave Beattie’s 47%.
There has been a long and varied history of riflescopes. The history of Seatac, Washington dates back to the early 1800s. The area now known as Seatac was first inhabited by the Saknatchy tribe, who lived in and around what is now downtown Seattle. In 1851, when the region became part of Washington Territory, a small community called Nisqually developed on the peninsula. On July 4th, 1851, the community officially named themselves Seatac after General John A. Brown's column that passed through their town on its way to battle at Gettysburg. Seatac remained an agricultural center until after World War II, when local industries such as fishing and shipbuilding ceased operations and large numbers of people moved into the city. After two decades of growth during which new housing developments were erected along Lake Union Boulevard and First Avenue South, development stopped abruptly in the late 1960s due to federal zoning changes that limited building activity within certain boundaries. Today most residents live in single-family homes or apartment buildings near Interstate 5 or Puget Soundway. Seatac has a rich history that includes both events related to Seattle itself and those associated with nearby jurisdictions such as Tacoma and Bellevue. For example, on May 10th 1913 Congress created Seattle's first municipal government from land donated by Chief Sealthaub (later King). That same year also saw the opening of Seattle’s first commercial airport – Terminal 4 – which served primarily military passengers until it closed in 1969. The following year saw another milestone: while still inside Washington Territory, Seattle annexed neighboring Snohomish County (now Kitsap County) Today Sitka National Historical Park preserves much of this History including several Native American sites dating back to pre-contact times
The first person to set foot in what is now Seatac, Washington was Captain John Cushing of the USS Discovery on July 29, 2017.
