Seatac is a city in King County, Washington, United States. It was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who died during the Mexican–American War. Seatac is a small town in Washington State, United States. The population was 2,858 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-King County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Seatac" means "place of seat" or "seat of government". The first settler in what is now Seatac was George Washburn and his family in 1853. The town was platted in 1865 by A.C. McClure and James Waddell as Seatac Lake Settlement #2 on land donated by General John Frémont and others during the Territorial Period. In 1867, the town had a population of fifty people and consisted of just three stores and a few residences; however, it rapidly grew with the opening of railroad lines nearby in 1868 and 1870 that transformed its economy. By 1871, there were three hotels, four grocery stores, six blacksmiths (including one who made saddles), five restaurants, two farmhouses, sixteen dwellings, four businesses including a dry goods store and post office (the only one then open in what are now Seatac and Everett), two schools (one for grades K-12th grade), two churches (oneMethodist Congregational) – both Baptist – one bank (Lincoln National Bank) – which became an early forerunner to today's American Express -and more than seventy residents! By 1890 there were twenty-four businesses with 1,500 employees statewide; seven banks; eleven automobiles including ten Dodge Brothers cars; sixteen school buildings; twelve churches; nineteen residences: thirty-six businesses! In 1910 Seatac had a population of 3200 with 120 store clerks/ employes plus 350 residents employed within local groceries stores making up 98%+of all economic activity while 4 services contributed 9% to GDP output During World War I until 1919 when aluminum production began major industry included munitions manufacturing 5 plants this produced over half a million tons providing jobs for locals workers most notably Seattletown Aluminum Company’s Alcan Workshops where eight out of ten workers were locals Machine shops continue through wars into peacetime producing war materials such as artillery shells at Tacoma Arsenal between 1941-1945 before ceasing production because technology moved on

The first airplane to fly in Washington was the Wright Brothers' "Flyer" on July 17, 1903. The first passenger service was operated by the Kinross Airways company. American Airlines became the first full-service airline in Washington when it opened its doors in 1911. Passenger and cargo flights were also made using airplanes until World War II when air travel was greatly diminished by war efforts and a shortage of fuel. Estate developers started developing land near Seatac Airport during the early 1920s for a new airport that would be named after them, but they never got around to it and Seatac Airport remained undeveloped until 1942 when the United States Army Air Forces created Camp Pendleton as an airfield forAAF training purposes. In 1945, military use decreased and civilian use increased as Boeing Plant #2 began operations at Seatac Airport making it one of the largest aircraft plants in North America at that time. Seatac was originally home to three farms: Cattlemen's Ranch (later renamed Browning Farms), Elk Farm and Washoe Springs Resort which all closed down during World War II because of military activities at Camp Pendleton or elsewhere nearby in Puget Sound area. The last farm occupant died on September 11, 1944 following a fire that destroyed their property near runway 10/28A . A few months later on October 2nd1945 local newspapers announced plans by a group of civic leaders including Mayor Arthur Wickersham and School Board member Mrs. Lillian Smedley to purchase 3 acres adjacent to runway 10/28A for $1,000 with plans to erect a wooden hangar capable of holding two planes so passengers could take off and land without having their cars broken into while traveling between Seattle and Tacoma airports). This plan failed due to lack of funds however subsequent endeavors did lead to construction of what is now known as "the Hangar" which served as an auxiliary landing field for both Boeing Plant #2 and Camp Pendleton until it closed in 1984 due to windsblown sandbank challenges over time; however souvenir programs still feature this photo from 1985! In 1949 Seattles mayor Norman Thurston proposed building a large interstate highway through Puget Sound connecting Seattle with Vancouver BC via Tacoma being called "The Thurston Highway". However this project stalled after Senator Birch Bayh opposed it citing environmental concerns about development along I-5 withinsee Stimson Valley National Wildlife Refuge Preserve watershed where endangered species Live!. It wasn't until 1955 when then Congressman John Murtha reintroduced Senate Bill 4692 which proposed funding for a major expressway through Skagit Valley between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (then Sea-Tac Field) northward paralleling Interstate 5 past Mount Baker National Forest eastward passing Snoqualmie Pass before terminating at Evergreen Cemetery southwest of Everett while extending southwesterly past Tukwila Beach Boulevard onto Elliott Bay thereby linkingSeattle with Tacoma forming what is today referredto asI-5 corridor ). Despite heavy opposition from environmentalists like Jay Cooke who argued that such an expressway would present serious environmental threats such as creating aquatic habitats unsuitable for salmon populations located upstream along I-5 corridor there eventually became reality with countywide vote approving Measure 95 on November 7th 1958 ; finally paving wayfor paved surface transportation corridors running concurrently serpentine throughout metropolitan King County resulting in massive growth across suburban areas adjacentto I-5 corridor .) After years delay SB 4692 ultimately became Congressional Resolution 8031 which led directlyto creationofKing County Regional Transportation Authority effective March 1st 1959 providing regional bus service withinKing County limits.) Seatac was founded in 1853 by a group of entrepreneurs who wanted to create a transportation hub for the Puget Sound region. The town name is derived from the first letter of each word in the company's initial logo, SEATAC. The original railroad station was built on what is now SEATAC Boulevard and became an important terminus for the Union Pacific Railroad before being replaced by Seattle's main train station in 1911. In 1957, Seatac underwent an $8 million renovation that included new passenger and freight facilities as well as a new hockey arena and convention center. In 1979, Seatac merged withSeattle-based Boeing Company to form Moses Lake-Boeing Corporation. The merger increased Boeing's presence in Seattle while also creating joint commercial interests including Boeing Everett Shipbuilding Inc., which builds submarines, aircraft carriers, and other maritime equipment; Seatelabs (a supplier of electronic components); and Seattle-based King County Air Authority. In 1992, Boeing announced plans to divest its maritime businesses in order to focus on aerospace products. The City of Seattle passed a resolution recognizing seatac as "the most acclaimed city center worldwide" on October 5, 2003 following years of planning by Mayor Richard M Lee and Chamber President Rick Steves. On November 17th 2006, after years of discussion among city officials, votersapproved Proposition U2 which called for the creation of a citywide downtown district composed entirely of high-end development opportunity adjacent to seatac airport property within five years time - making it one step closer to reality! This proposal would have see major redevelopment including luxury condos/apartments/hotels/restaurants near air traffic control terminals while preserving valuable airport land for future use such as housing or retail uses
