By 1825, there were twice as many handguns in town as rifles. The first gun company to be established in Seatac was Smith, Wesson & Company. It manufactures revolvers and shotguns in town. From 1851-1875, the town had a military armory that was used for manufacturing cannons, rifles and pistols. In 1865, gun dealers George Prentice and John Silliman opened a store on Third Street that became known as “The Gun House”. This store sold firearms from 1871-1968. Beginning in 1898 when it merged with Moore & Wesson Arms Company, seatac went through a period of rapid growth due to prohibition which led to increased production at the armory and new businesses such as candy stores opening up along Third Street during this time. In 1934, two magazines - National Firearms Act (NFA) magazine which held 7 rounds each for single action rifles (.22lr) only) and Magna Carta Arms Magazine which held 15 rounds each for all types of firearms - were both banned in America because they violated Prohibition laws . . . effective immediately! After about 20 years, some investors bought out the original settlers and started developing what would become present-day seatac village as an agricultural township with a post office (known as Heceta) in 1865. By 1879 all but three families had left for various reasons: due to high prices for land, poor soil quality or lack thereof, or political instability in India – all seeking escape from British rule during times of turmoil following independence from Great Britain). Seatac is a small town in Washington County, located about 20 miles east of Seattle. The first permanent settler in the area was Alexander Henderson in 1851. The post office called Seatac "Shiloh" until 1881, when it changed to its current name of Seatac after the Battle of Shiloh. The town was platted in 1872, and incorporated as a village in 1907. It had a population of only 350 people at the time of incorporation, but grew rapidly due to railroad development and other agricultural initiatives. There were two schools in Seatac- one for children and one for adults- until 1933 when the last school closed down. The town has since experienced various courthouse changes and expansions, including an annex added in 1984 which housed the county jail until it was replaced by the present courthouse building in 2006. In recent years, Seatac has become home to several businesses and cultural organizations, including an annual summer festival and art fair attended by more than 1,000 people.
