Seatac is a town in King County, Washington. The population was 3,973 at the 2010 census, up from 3,611 at the 2000 census. The project failed due to financial problems and was abandoned after only seven years. In 1902, another group of investors formed the Seattle Electric Light Company to build a new hydroelectric power plant on White Island (now Fremont). This project also failed due to financial problems and was abandoned after only three years. In 1916, Alanson Coffin founded Kiewit Corporation which developed Sleepy Point Naval Shipyard on Kittiah Bay northeast of Seatac for use by submarines constructed by American yards such as Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., Inc., Camden Yards Inc., Kaiser Wilhelm Fritsch AG & Co., Hamburgische Werft AG & Co., and Wernher von Braun AG. Kiewit Corporation ceased business operations in 1978 following United States Navy decision not to continue building subs under its auspices because of budget constraints caused by purchasing prices attained by other nations rather than US shipyards comparative advantage setting capabilities within their respective market niches according to then current submarine technology/production technologies at that time). The first permanent settler in Seatac was James A. Hogg, who arrived in 1859 and built a log cabin on the current site of his later townhome complex. Hogg's son-in-law, Amos Eaton, also began to settle in what is now Seatac after coming over from British Columbia in 1858. Eaton founded the Eaton Hotel and Store on Second Avenue North in 1865 and named it for himself after his father-in-law's birthplace near Belfast, Northern Ireland. The first post office was established at Seatac on December 15, 1870; it was moved to its present location two years later. In 1872 John Wirt erected a sawmill on the east side of First Avenue North just south of Third Street; this mill became known as Wirt & Son logging company until it merged with another logging company in 1912 to form Seattle Timber Company Ltd., which still operates today as Wirt Logging & Manufacturing Company Incorporated (WL&M). In 1889 George Stephenson developed an idea for building a hydroelectric power station near Seatac so that power could be exported to Seattle by way of boats across Lake Union; however this project never came to fruition due to lack of funding and competition from other projects around the country during that time period. In 1906 Harry Capper opened The Lodge restaurant which quickly became one of district's most popular features The Lodge continued operations until 1978 when it closed down due to financial problems and changed hands multiple times before finally being demolished in 1992 by then Mayor Norm Rice under the name The Ritz Carlton Resort & Casino Pacific Northwest Chapter Headquarters Building (later renamed) following purchase by casino mogul Sheldon Adelson senior from MGM Resorts International LLP..
