In 1974, Microsoft Corporation moved its headquarters from Redmond to Seatac for twenty years until they relocating again to Bellevue in 2013 when they purchased Microsoft Center from Boeing Company for $350 million dollars. Seatac has a variety of restaurants including sit-down restaurants like Starbucks Coffee & Donuts as well as fast food joints like Carl's Jr., Subway and KFC\. There are also several motels available within walking distance of the town center including Quality Inn and Holiday Inn Express\.

In 1998, however, a group of volunteers began restoring Seatac as part of a project to revive the community throughout the area. The first permanent settler in what is now Seatac probably arrived during or before 1855 when Russian fur traders landed at what is now Point Defiance Island to trade goods with Native Americans. By 1860, there were at least 10 families living in what is now Sitka County. During the late 1800s and early 1900s many businesses were established within walking distance of each other in downtown Sitka: grocery stores (Kitsap grocer), breweries (Penhawa brewery), lumberyards (Walsh lumberyard), banks (First National Bank), restaurants (Tilghman's restaurant), bars/cafés (Bennett's bar & cafe) and theaters (the Park Theatre). In 1907-08 several thousand logs were exported from Sitka to Seattle through John D'Emilio for use as decking on Navy ships sailing out to Asia and Latin America; this locally produced wood allowed Sitka not just to maintain its status as "the mills that did it" but also helped contribute significantly to local economic development duringWorld War I and II when shipbuilding became more important than ever with new naval bases being built along Puget Sound waterfront following World War I (). Many residents who lived near commercial enterprises such as these supported military service while others worked inside factories which produced munitions or elsewhere during World War I; some men even went into combatant roles such as becoming engineers on land warfare machines developed at Western Electric plant northwest of Seattle called " Snoopy." On July 1, 1847, the first train ever ran on the tracks of Seatac Station. The station was located at the corner of Seventh and First Streets in what is now part of Seattle. The line between Seattle and Tacoma was built first, and passenger trains began running to Seatac from Tacoma on November 1, 1849. Passenger service ended on October 6, 1951.
