Seatac is a census-designated place in Puget Sound, Washington, United States. The population was 1,532 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Anacortes–Kentwood, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Seatac was first settled by people in 1853 and named after then-Secretary of War Edwin Stanton's home town of New York City. By 1870, most of what is now Seatac had been developed as an agricultural center with small villages dotting its periphery. In 1902, the Seattle and Tacoma Railway built a line from Seattle to Olympia, cutting through Seatac and providing access to Everett and Tacoma for the first time. The city also played a role in developing atomic weapons research during this time period. After World War II, many jobs went away from Seatac as technology changed and advances were made elsewhere in Northwest America. However, since then, industry has slowly started coming back to town as local companies have been able to adapt their business models to keep up with technological advancements. Today, Sitiac is a thriving community with a diverse economy based on education, health care, government services and retail goods/services; some examples are Boeing , Microsoft , Amazon . Many residents enjoy walking or biking around town or taking buses everywhere they need to go without feeling pressurized or backed up by traffic congestion typical of innercity areas like Atlanta or Los Angeles
