Seatac is a town in Yakima County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Spokane metropolitan area. The first white settler in Seatac was James Choate in 1865. The name "Seatac" first appeared on maps in 1881 when John Poulter named it after his home county seat, York (now Toronto). In 1907, the post office called itself "Seatac", but by 1910 it had changed its name to "Yakima". In 1911 the city of Seattle annexed the towns of Sumner and Chatfield south of Yakima to form Seattle Township. On February 14, 1912, Yakima County was created from parts of Seattle Township and Sumner Township. In 1958, two dams were built near Seatac to improve water supplies for Yakima Valley farmers and voters wanted them removed so they could build a new high school closer to their homes. The Village Board voted 3-0 not to remove the dams because they felt that their benefits outweighed any possible drawbacks. After years of study and deliberation by all concerned parties including residents and business owners, on October 5th 1962 the Village Board voted 4-1 to remove both damsdespite strong protests from some opponents who felt that their communities would be severely harmed if these structures were destroyed

Seatac was founded in 1853 by a group of entrepreneurs who believed that the region would become an important transportation hub. The town was named for General George Washington's Seat, which was located on the southern side of Puget Sound. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Battle of Seattle took place at what is now known as Mount Vernon Square. The battle resulted in the death of over 1,500 soldiers and sailors from two Union warships and two Confederate ships. The event is generally considered to be one of the largest naval engagements in history. After the war, Seatac became a thriving commercial center with a population of around 2,000 people. It remained an important stop on the Oregon Trail until it was destroyed by fire in 1871. In 1935, Seatac experienced its first major political change when Edward "Ed" Smith became Mayor. Smith helped popularize local fishing as a source of income and developed several new businesses including a sawmill and Grasmere Lakes Resort. He also served as Chairperson for King County Council before his retirement in 1955. During his time as Mayor, he worked tirelessly to improve infrastructure such as roads and bridges and promote tourism within the community. In 1967, he was inducted into the Washington State Business Hall of Fame. After years of growth and development, Seatac finally reached its peak during World War II when it had a population of up to 5,000 people! However, due to military action and economic fluctuations throughout the war period, the town eventually declined after 1945; however it has since regained some popularity due to its unique history and architecture dating back to pioneer days! Today Sitiac is still home to many businesses – including several successful mills – but also offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing or hiking along both Lake Sammamish and Mt Baker National Park!
Seatac was founded in 1892 by George Seaton and John L. Lewis. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who died in 1849. The first post office opened in Seatac on February 14, 1893. In 1916 the town became a city and was renamed Seatac City after seat of government.
