Seatac is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 17,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The name "Seatac" comes from the local Indian word seattachuk (meaning "water place"), which is also the name of a small creek that borders Seatac on its east side. The first permanent settler in what would become Seatac was Alexander Cowlitz in 1851. He named his land "Seatac" after the local Indian word seattachuk (meaning "water place"). In 1853, George Vancouver discovered and mapped Puget Sound and started to sell land along what would become Seatac Creek to settlers. By 1865, there were over 40 families living in and around Seatac Creek and most of them were Norwegian immigrants who had come to work on various railroad projects across Western Washington. In 1881, a group of Russian-American businessmen purchased two tracts of land between Seatac Creek and Interstate 5 for $10 per acre. They named their new town Nikolai Ioffeevichstadt (Russian: Николай Иофеевичский), in honor of Russian ambassador to America Ivan Ioffeevich Stolypin. Situated on high ground near Race Point aerial view spotlights provided by United States Geological Survey maps as early as 1889 made Nikolai Ioffeevichstadt one of the most visible towns in King County; it even boasted an electric light plant built by General Electric Company employees during World War II! When Interstate 5 was completed 10 years later in 1962, it bypassed Nikolai Ioffeevichstadt completely making it an ghost town once again! In late 1907/early 1908, following construction of First American Railroad's line through downtown Seattle & Capitol Hill - now Pioneer Square - Russian immigrant entrepreneurs Charles Sorensen & George Arsenault developed a small retail store at 9th Ave N & Seneca Street; they called it Soren's Grocery Store because Charles Sorensen operated both meatpacking plants located directly adjacent to each other at 8th Ave N & Union Street - now Safeway - until his death in 1922). Managerial decisions made during this time period led eventually to consolidation within the grocery industry with four major players: Sam's Club (later known as Kroger), Safeway, Publix Supermarkets chain and Wm B Ross Drug Stores Incorporated (now Walgreens Boots Alliance). Due primarily to competition from these newcomers - plus large investments into better transportation infrastructure including intercity expressways such as Interstate 5 - seatcoast grocery stores closed throughout most or all King County by the mid-1960s except for a handful located near airport runways serving Everett /verett district which continued open until 1981 when successor Albertson Companies closed them citing public perception that more shopping could be done close to airports rather than inside larger grocers
Seatac is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 2,652 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Seattle, between Bellevue and Redmond. The first Europeans to visit Seatac were the Vancouver Company's George Vancouver and his companions in 1792. From 1851 until it became a county seat in 1909, Seatac was known as "Nedland". Seatac post office opened on December 4, 1851, and closed on October 15, 1959. In 1907, J.D. Thompson built a sawmill there that still stands today; it processed logs for the local paper mill until 1984. The town also had an ice cream parlor and two grocery stores before they closed around 1990-1991. In addition to its logging industry heyday (1907-1984), Seatac also produced hay products such as straw bales and feed for hogs from 1938 until 1972; cattle from 1924 until 1957; feathers from 1901 until 1939; eggs from 1916 until 1949; bricks from 1888Until 1908; and pottery from 1889Until 1912
