Sammamish is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of theSeattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. Sammamish was founded by Captain George Vancouver on April 14, 1792 as Partridge Inlet. The first European to visit the area now known as Sammamish was Captain George Vancouver who sailed up Puget Sound on his HMS Discovery in 1792 and recorded what he saw from his island observation post on May 11th: "A very high mountain [to the south] is distant about equal to our ship's length, its summit crowned with a large rock or peak...It appears to be an extinct volcano." This early description marked what would become Seattle and Tacoma. The first permanent settler in the area arrived in 1835 when Colonel Alexander Smith built a log cabin near present day Pioneer Square. By 1840 there were twenty five families living in what would become Sammamish Village. By 1853 there were over one hundred residents settled here including sixtyfive women and thirty seven men. The initial growth of this village was due to its location; close to two major rivers and two ports which gave it easy access to goods coming into Seattle and Tacoma through Nisqually River (now Duwamish River) and Lake Union (now Lingonberry Lake). In 1855 construction began on James Worthy House which served as the first public school for students in this community of several thousand people. The following year Pinchot School opened for kindergarten children located just north of present day Pioneer Square opposite First Baptist Church which became home for high school students after that church moved from its original location next door in 1861. During World War II many local businesses took part in production of munitions such as ammunition plants at Boeing Field (later Lockheed Martin) downtown while others worked on making war materials inaccessible outside Washington state like nylon stockings for soldiers or oil refineries across Elliott Bay downtown where Japanese submarines had been sinking ships daily during 1942-1945 . One example of this type of business activity is Soonta Coffee Corporation whose coffee beans are ground at their facilities just east of I-5 exit 222 off Highway 99 near Northgate Mall today. After Pearl Harbor Japanese nationals were interned here until 1945 when they were transferred to Fort Lewis Island

In 1881, GEOFFREY LODGE bought land near present day Sammamish from David Ewing for $1,000. Lodge turned the land into an agricultural colony with fields of wheat, barley, cotton and other crops. In 1902 WILBUR KEMP purchased 3/4 mile (0.8 km) of shoreline along Kitsap Lake for $5 per acre (2 km²). This allowed Kemp to build his large resort complex called Kemp Bay today known as Discovery Park! The town started off as just 8 homes - 4 by Lodge and 2 by Kemp - but soon grew to more than 100 homes! In 1949 SAMMAMISH TOWN COUNCIL organized a paving company to pave Main Street from Waterfront Drive to Railroad Avenue so that people could move into their new homes without having to walk through mud flats every time they wanted groceries or doctor services! Today most people know about this project because somebody left an interesting rock art plaque at the corner of Main Street & Railroad Ave., marking where things once stopped being easy - until we paved it over! Sammamish has been historically home to many different types of residents: fishermen, farmers, lumberjacks etc.; however there are few specific examples that can be given about each group’s contribution to the community during specific periods or times frame.
