In the early 1800s, Sammamish was a small town in King County, Washington. It was settled by Native Americans and began to grow after the arrival of European settlers. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Sammamish were Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived in 1827. By 1850, there were over 100 people living in the town. The community first had gun lights installed in 1868 when one of the pioneer men, John McIntyre, decided to have them installed on his home. The first European settler in what is now Sammamish was John Day in 1851. The town name comes from an Algonquian word meaning "place where trees grow." The first post office opened in 1856 and served until 1865; it was then renamed Independence Avenue. The modern day town began to be developed as a agricultural center during World War II when Boeing built its headquarters there after winning contracts to build bombers for the United States military. After the war, Boeing left and development slowed down until the late 1990s when Everett-based Microsoft moved into a new building next door to become one of Sammamish's largest employers. In 2003, Microsoft merged with Yahoo! and created one giant company that still uses many buildings from Microsoft’s early days—including those used by Yahoo! before they were acquired by Google—in what has been called the “Yahoo!Sammamish” merger. In recent years, Sammamish has seen growth due to its location near Interstate 5 and its access to Interstate 90 which provides easy access to both Tacoma and Seattle. There are also several subdivisions available that allow for more than just single-family homes developments: Horizon Ridge Estates offers luxury homes complete with pools, spa tubs, manicured gardens and shuttles between them for residents who want all these features; North Pointe offers homes with open space behind them; Kitsap Woods offers starter homes with larger demolitions coming soon; South Sound Heights gives buyers access to a pool surrounded by upscale single family home developments while living close enough so they can walk their dog or bike without having any fear of traffic congestion.; finally Riverfront Park provides a diversity of activities such as basketball (the town's only team), soccer (the town's only sport), fishing (both saltwater and fresh water) as well as special events like car shows or carnivals every year in December which draw thousands of people from all over Puget Sound region

Sammamish is a census-designated place in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 Census. It lies east of Seattle and north of Bellevue. Sammamish is part of the Bellevue–Everett Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit the area were traders and missionaries who came from Russia in 1846. In 1892, a post office was established at Sammamish Creek, which served the community until 1959 when it was moved to its current location. By 1900, there were only six homes in the community; by 1910 there were 108 residents. The growth of Seattle and Everett led to an increase in Population within Sammamish creek watershed from just two people per square mile in 1920 to over twenty people per square mile by 1930; this increased traffic along Interstate 5 necessitated new closures for car ferrying between Seattle and Everett on Sundays during rush hour as well as other restrictions on access that limited development opportunities for small farmers near I-5 freeway exit ramps (e.g., those near Boeing facilities). In 1978, developers started construction on what would become known as "The Lakes", a $1 billion mixed use development project that included offices, retail stores, residential units and a command center used by both NASA and Microsoft Puget Sound Research Lab.. The project ran into delays due to environmental concerns caused by coal mining operations adjacent to the lakeshore communities around them; however construction resumed in late 1980 after approval from then-Governor Gary Locke In 1984 developer Mike Matta purchased "The Lakes" property and began developing it into what became known as "Matta Place". The housing complex includes 136 apartments with prices starting at $200/month including utilities allowance On July 15th 2013 King County voters passed Measure 2 which sets residency limits for single parents living beyond seven miles of their children's school unless they are able to provide documentation such as proof of employment or affordable housing
