Kells Paper Mills built several schools including Olympic High School which opened in 1928 and served as the community's main high school until it closed in 1982; Pioneer Elementary School which opened in 1959; Olympic Middle School which opened in 1965; and Olympic Jr./Sr. High School which opened in 1971. They also operate two paper mills that produce newsprint (Seattle Times Mill & Pacific Newsprint) and general purpose paper (Hazel Dell Paper Company). In 1999-2000, they merged with JBS Sysco Inc., forming JBS USA Holdings Corporation (JUSA). After years of growth at both mills, production capacity was increased by 50%, making them among largest paper producers within North America before being acquired by Wal-Mart Stores Incorporated on November 1, 2007 for $13 billion ($ then $14 per share).
