The history of airguns in Sammamish, Washington can be traced back to the early 1800s. At that time, people in the area used muzzle-loading pistols to shoot pigeons. One of the earliest airguns known to exist in Sammamish was a crude affair consisting of a small tube and an explosive cartridge mounted on a stick. This gun was used by farmers for target practice. In 1876, A. W. Putnam built a small airgun shop in town and began manufacturing his own airguns using parts from other gunsmith shops. By 1888, Putnam had produced several thousand firearms at his shop and exported them all over the United States and Canada. In 1916, Putnam died suddenly and his son continued production at the shop until it closed in 1922. The last firearm made at Putnam's Shop was an experimental pump-action rifle called the "Putnam Rifle." During World War II, many Sammamish residents turned to shotguns for their defense against Axis bombers flying overhead during the war years. Because of this increased demand for shotguns, put together several stocks of new low-power shotgun rounds which were effective against bomber targets downrange from their homes or stores (see History of Shotgun Ammunition). Afterward, most hunters stopped using firearms altogether as they became less reliable than rifles when it came to hitting small game out there in nature; however some still use handguns for hunting big game animals like bears or elephants because they are more accurate than rifles when shooting close up

Sammamish is a town in King County, Washington, United States. founded in 1851 as part of the Whitman Agricultural and Mining District, it became an incorporated town in 1893. The population was 5,419 at the 2010 census. Sammamish is located on State Route 99 parallel to Lake Sammamish and is bordered by Thurston County to the north and east, Pierce County to the south, and King County to the west. The community has been growing since its incorporation as there have been more than 10 annexations within its borders over time. The first permanent settler in what would become Sammamish was John Whitman who arrived with his family from Rhode Island in 1851. The first store opened in 1853 along with a post office which served until 1865 when it was moved to Olympia because of the railroad construction nearby. By 1860, Whitman had erected two houses and started farming with land he purchased from Taylor Creek Indian Reservation owner John Walker Sr.. In 1863-64 local boys helped founding father Abraham Lincoln deliver a speech from hisboat on Lake Sammamish before entering into professional life full time In 1893 Sammamish merged with neighboring Unalakleet (present day Olympic) to form one municipality under then county sheriff Ebenezer Douglass Brownell It wasn't until 1912 that an annexation took place when Brushy Point Lighthouse was annexed by the new town of Unalakleet In 1915-16 another annexation took place when Grays Harbor Light Station was annexed by Sammamish In 1922 another annexation took place when Mowat Lakes lighthouse was annexed by the new town of Wenatchee
