In 1870–71, A&P grocery store opened on Fourth Avenue NE corner Third Street NW which became one of America's largest groceries before closing its doors in 1984 due to competition from Safeway chain stores across the state In 1896–97 Dr H US Grant Moncrieff opened his general store at SE corner First Ave NE & SW corner Second Ave NW then rich grocers followed suit until all but one closed by 2001 In 1913 construction began on what would become CenturyLink Field with help from local businessmen Wm Grouse & Sons The football stadium site changed hands numerous times between 1962 and 1966 before finally chosen as it sat vacant for over thirty years Construction began on CenturyLink Field in November 2006 and finished up that May 2007 Richland has seen many changes over its history including becoming a 35% Hispanic majority city according to2010 Census results; however this trend may be slowly reversing with more white residents moving into the city limits
