In 1865, a company called The Third Regiment of Artillery was organized in order to provide artillery support for troops on Capitol Hill during the American Civil War. This unit served under General Ulysses S. Grant and participated in several engagements including Battle of Bull Run where they fired over 1,500 rounds at Confederate soldiers. In 1892, an armory named “A” & “B” Arsenal were built in order to serve as a training ground for members of the Seattle Police Department’s Gun Team program. From here, officers and members of the gun team learned how to fire handguns and shotguns while also practicing chases and Shootouts with other law enforcement agencies across town.

This ordinance also helped to ensure that Renton would not become overwhelmed by traffic when large events such as festivals or sporting events took place throughout the year. During World War II, much effort was put into building up defenses against Japan so that Seattle would not be caught unprepared should war break out between Japan and America. One particular project undertaken by Renton was construction of a naval airbase just north of town which would provide defense against any Japanese fighter planes flying overhead during wartime activities in or near Seattle. The base operated until 1958 when it was closed down due to budget cuts made by U .S . Defense Secretary Robert McNamara
