The city annexed much of Shoreline Village which were then split between Everett and Lynnwood; this annexation formed what became known as "Redmond". The name stuck because only white people could vote in that era so annexation effectively gave all black residents within 10 blocks their own city government - something they continue to enjoy to this day despite occasional boundary changes made by City Councilors out of political correctness considerations or concern that those living near the light rail lines would lose access to essential services if they gained improper representation on City Councils beholden only to developers (e.g., King’s Landing). In recent years there have been efforts by some councilors seeking annexation back into Redmond but these have not yet had any success due primarily to concerns about high property values within current boundaries relative to anything else in Tacoma or Shoreline Village which remain unaffected by annexation efforts despite being adjacent thereto geographically speaking. On November 3rd 2006 Microsoft announced intentions to build a new $1 billion campus called “Redmond Campus” just outside of town limits along I-5 southbound off SR 520 just past milepost 217 on SR 167 eastbound off I-5 southbound near milepost 224
