In 1888, Puyallup was the site of a smallOptical Manufacturing Company. The company manufactured lenses and other optical accessories for use in photography, surveying and other scientific applications. In 1924, the company was renamed Bayview Optical Industries and continued to produce optics until its closure in 1984. After Bayview's closure, it was purchased by TRW (now Intel) who moved production to Taiwan. In 2006, TRW sold the Taiwanese plant to J&J Optical Materials Corp., which continued to produce optics until 2011 when it merged with Corning Incorporated. Today, there are several companies that produce optical accessories including Apple Inc.'s iMac line of computers, Nikon Nikkor Camera bodies, Loodus Optics products and Dark Horse Comics' "X-MEN" comics book series.

Puyallup is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,903 at the 2010 census. The Puyallup area first appears on maps in 1792 as part of the Puget Sound Indian Reservation. In 1853, the Treaty of Lake Stevens ceded to the United States all of what is now King and Pierce counties except for four small parcels near present-day Puyallup. The town site was chosen because it had a full millrace and water supply running through it from an open ravine near the present-day city limits. On July 24, 1863, during the American Civil War, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered his army to cross the river at Forks over which Puyallup Bridge spanned when they moved across Tacoma Bay to attack Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The bridge collapsed under pressure from artillery fire from Confederate forces nearby and seven men lost their lives; including five officers of Grant's Army of Northern Virginia who were leading a reconnaissance mission across Tacoma Bay that day. In 1881*, Puyallup became home to both Kalapanaan Consolidated School District No. 2 (now Kalapanaan School District) and then Columbian Church Academy (later Columbian School). These two schools share one building until 1961 when Columbian moved into its own building on Main Street northeast of town center. The mills closed down around 1930 but many relics remain: several large Scale models of mills built by Wm Henson & Sons foundry in 1910 still stand next to each other on Main Street west of town center; blacksmithing tools dating back to before World War II are also still seen around town; a number of pioneer buildings have been preserved such as the old store house on North Main Street east of town center where settlers met after coming here from Seattle; and numerous heritage items like pioneer tools and clothing can be found at various museums scattered throughout King County today. In recent years there has been interest in restoring or rehabilitating these historic properties so they can once again become part of local history but no decisions have yet been made about how this will happen given that some property is already used for commercial purposes or is simply too valuable for restoration/rehabilitation to occur without permission from landowners etc.. *1881 - Map

Puyallup is a census-designated place in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,656 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of Puget Sound and about northwest of Seattle. The first people to live in what is now Puyallup were the Nisqually people. They ranged from northcentral Puget Sound down to Whatcom County and partway up to Olympia before moving southward in the late 18th century. In 1792 the area became part ofWA Territory when it was organized as Territorial District No. 5 (the district later became Kitsap County). In 1851, gold was discovered at nearby Duwamish River which led to a rush by settlers to stake claim to land along the river's banks. By 1855, there were over 100 Anglo families living in what is now Puyallup; many more would follow during the next decade as sound technology made it easier for them to find and farm land around Puget Sound. Goldmining continued until 1865 when Congress passed legislation abolishing territorial governments and creating state governments instead; this final act left most of WA within territorial boundaries but gave residents of Puyallup voting rights within that new state government.
