Puyallup is located on Puget Sound between Seattle and Bellevue to the south and Tacoma to the north. The Cascades run along its eastern border. The land that now makes up Puyallup was first settled by people from Asia who came through Juan de Fuca Strait in search of new land to farm after their homeland was destroyed by a tsunami in 1700. In 1851, part of what would become Puyallup Township was acquired by John Aitken, one of nine settlers who bought Rancho San Miguel from Pedro Mudge for $4,000. In 1892, parts of the town were moved eastward when the railway was built across Puget Sound; it would be re-established as Puyallup three years later when a second railroad line arrived from Seattle via Lynnwood and Olympia. At that time there were only two stores and no industry; today's economy depends largely on agriculture which accounts for about 60% of GDP and jobs in manufacturing have declined since 2000 due to Asian competition with low wages in other countries. A fire burned down most of downtown Puyallup on November 25th 1904 during a race riot between two gangs associated with different interests (the "Riots" happened because Sheriff Harry Dumont refused to investigate reports that African Americans had been beaten). Most notably among those injured or killed were four young men named Lester Flaubert (credited as Lloyd), Alonzo Jeter (Albert), Clarence Collins (Clarence) and Wm Beanie Boyd (dubbed "Wally"). Aftermath: Lloyd lost his right eye while working at an insurance company; Jeter lost both eyesight but still works today as a janitor at Kaiser Aluminum Company; Albert sustained serious injuries including cuts over his stomach which required surgery; Clarence died five days later from gangrene set into his flesh courtesy of another bandit named Roy Eaton (Eaton got away with it thanks to changes made at trial); Beanie Boyd fled northbound before authorities could catch up with him but eventually turned himself in after receiving amnesty from President Theodore Roosevelt

Puyallup is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 21,730 at the 2010 census. The name Puyallup comes from the northwest coast of Vancouver Island and means "Island of the People's Head." The first residency in Puyallup was recorded on August 24, 1851 when Joshua Latham and his family arrived on the ship "Columbia". They were followed by J.D. Goodspeed on September 8th and Abram Beardsley on October 3rd. On November 15th, Hernando Lopez came ashore with his family for a year before moving to Tacoma. In 1854 Cesar Chavez settled here with his wife Emma and two children Nannie and Pedro. In 1905 Don Armstrong bought 1/2 section of land straddling present-day Puyallup Road and Hastings Avenue from Wm Morrison for $822 dollars cash plus 10% interest per annum payable annually until paid off. This parcel became Armstrong Park after he donated it to the town in 1909 as part of a park dedication campaign Led by Mayor Atherton One early resident was John Bynum who emigrated from Wales in 1853 with his husband Lewis (known as Billy) Bynum arriving on board the ship "British Columbia" He had been born in Liverpool but come to America looking for a better life His brother-in-law Harry Senter had already founded the city of Seattle The first post office opened in Puyallup on November 5th, 1865 under the name Ofcordia It closed due to lack of customers about 1921 In 1914 an oil well was drilled near present day Clearwater Boulevard & Pettit Street; this well produced gas which led to development around this area including what is now known as Armstrong Park . It should be noted that there have been many changes over time to how people live within town limits such as this change which took place only about 100 years ago!
