Oregon Statehood occurred on February 14th via an act of Congress approved on February 3rd under President Ulysses S Grant with help from Senator Francis Wayland PPurcella Jr.. On March 12th 1865 – just over three years before statehood – local residents gathered at the old courthouse square nearpresent dayNWU for a meeting that elected Isaac Nye president pro tem; Nye served until 1880 when he resigned due to health concerns related to alcoholism/mechanics/corruption allegations surrounding Commodore Perry’s visit to Salem valley in 1878 . Pennsylvanian William McKinley was elected instead on November 8th 1880 less than two months afterGrant took office making Oregon into an Republican state for the first time since Reconstruction days . On January 6th 1889 Charles Kingsbury succeeded Nye as president pro tempore with distinction having also been active in early school board meetings preceding that position including serving as secretary between 1888-92 under Governor Harvey Imlay while also holding other cabinet posts including becoming acting attorney general upon Imlay’s resignation effective May 1st 1889 . In 1898 Fenton Burnham replaced Nye as president pro tempore following Kingsbury’s death suddenly eleven days prior without any warning or notice given to members of government or school board… At this point things started unraveling quickly with financial irregularities & mismanagement around schools & college awarding scholarships etc.; within weeks or so there were questions raised about whether university could continue functioning despite all these problems when Kingsbury himself died suddenly four months later leaving behind an unfinished legacy including accusations against both Burnham & McKinley over funding irregularities
