The name "Pullman" comes from Mr. George's original donation of land to the township as well as an old Illinois farmhouse that once stood thereabouts called "Pleasant Hill". Mrs. King renamed her home "Pullman" after her father-in-law's birthplace in France - also known as Pompadour Castle - which she had visited while on her honeymoon with her husband Mr. King two years earlier (1879). In1881, when George Pullman donated his land to the township, it consisted of just over one acre (0 hectare), which today totals over four acres (1 hectare). In 1896, lumber magnate James Stillwell bought 8 acres (3 hectares) of property adjoining present day PullMAN Township for $2,000 and laid out a new village領域 on it called Stillwellsville; this village served as the nucleus around which all other development took place until 1959 when pullMAN Townships were amalgamated into Washtenaw County effective November 1st 1959 pullMAN Township was organized January 10th 1892 under territorial law #4362 at its first meeting with John Dorman presiding idahelpaulpullmann appointed treasurer johndorman@mailboxcom
