The history of Port Angeles gun grips is intertwined with the history of its community. Its beginnings can be traced back to 1854 when pioneer George Prentice and his brother, Edward Prentice, founded a trading post on the present-day site of Port Angeles. The Post office was located at what is now the corner of First Avenue and Main Street. In 1861, the brothers sold their holdings in the post office to Captain H.H. Moody for $1,500. Captain Moody renamed the post "Port Angeles" and began operating it as a port of entry for goods travelling from Oregon to Puget Sound. In 1872, Captain Moody's son-in-law, Nathaniel Richards, purchased the post from Captain Moody and continued operation as a port of Entry until 1886 when he sold it to George Noyes for $5,000. At this time, Port Angeles became an important commercial center due to its access to water resources and its location at the mouth of Salmon River (later named King County). Nathan Richards' grandson Alfred Noyes ran the business until 1906 when it was acquired by John Waddell who kept it running until his death in 1935. Waddell's widow developed it into an industrial park that remains in operation today. The first building on this property was built in 1909 and replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by fire two years earlier. Port Angeles, Washington is a small town in rural King County, Washington. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of theSeattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. The community was first settled by families from Sweden in 1851. It was named for Augustus Hays Port (1811-1878), United States Senator from Washington Territory and later Mayor of Seattle. In 1887, the Poulsbo brothers built a sawmill on the east side of downtown and started to sell lumber there. The town gradually grew up around it, with several stores and businesses opening until World War II when everything came to an end due to military service. In 1946, the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce formed a civic booster club which began purchasing land within the limits of town for future development including what is now Reagan High School and Port Angeles Community College. In 1957, voters approved a charter for the port city school district which became operational in 1959 with four schools: Westlake Elementary School (now Reagan Middle School), Eastlake Elementary School, Salmon Bay Elementary School, and North Sound Middle School; as well as one high school: Harborview High School which opened in 1962 after being closed by then-Mayor Donald Quayle because it lacked facilities suitable for students grades 9 through 12. At its peak in 2000,port Arthur had a population of over 10,000 people but today only has about 6500 residents living inside its borders

Port Angeles was founded in 1854 as the town of Winthrop. The first post office was opened in 1855, and the first store was built in 1857. The town name was changed to Port Angeles in 1886. In 1912, the city of Seattle incorporated as a result of an act passed by the Washington State Legislature. As a result, Port Angeles lost its status as a village and became an incorporated city underSeattle's jurisdiction. In 1954, the City Council voted to change the name of Port Angeles back to Winthrop after years of petitioning from local residents. The history of Port Angeles begins with early pioneers who set out from what is now Seattle to explore this new land that would eventually become Washington state. One such pioneer was Samuel Gregg, who traveled through what is now Port Angeles on his way to found Tacoma in 1792. At that time it was still part of Prince George's County, Maryland and at only 12 miles long and 4 wide it wasn't much different than today's Puget Sound region which included many small towns at that time. In 1854, James Wickersham purchased 640 acres near present-day downtown Port Angeles from John McLoughlin for $1,000 cash and development began immediately with Wickersham building his sawmill on the site which he named Hope Mill after his wife’s maternal grandmother (Hope being another word for “pioneer”). This mill continued operations until 1903 when it caught fire due to negligence on part of the owner; however, there were no injuries or damage done to any property whatsoever! One significant event which took place during this early period occurred on March 20th1856 when Ulysses S Grant arrived in Olympia on horseback and attended a meeting held by representatives from King County Agricultural Society where he announced plans for creation of Northwest Territory including Kitsap Peninsula including present day Puget Sound area! A few weeks later on April 1st1856 Ulysses S Grant issued General Order #2 creating Puget Sound Indian Reservation encompassing all present day Okanogan County except wintershalted areas east of Stevens Pass! This order effectively ended Native American trade across those waters which had been taking place since before white man even set foot upon these shores! It is interesting to note that this order also stated that all goods necessary for subsistence must be brought overland through Unalaska!! Today we know this forced march asthe Klondike Gold Rush!!! As people began arriving in greater numbers ports such as Winthrop grew busy catering to their needs both commercially and socially with various businesses opening up along Hart Street between Uniontown Road and Second Avenue providing goods such as groceries, transportation services etc.. By 1860 there were 10 stores open within 15 miles Of Portland Pennsylvania!!!!! Many vessels stopped at anchor off shore while supplies were unloaded bringing travelers ideas about how they might make their fortune ashore!!!
