However, during the 1970s and 1980s port city growth stopped abruptly due to economic recession; however recent developments have begun to revive the economy again including higher-than-average job rates and increasing housing prices within walking distance of downtown buildings which offer excellent views of Puget Sound retirement communities or other waterfront properties

In 1861, Washington became a state after it was admitted as a United States territory following the American Civil War. The city of Seattle was founded in 1881 as the terminus of a railway line connecting Tacoma with Portland and other east coast cities. During World War II, Port Angeles played an important role as an airfield for Boeing aircraft manufacturing at nearby Renton and Des Moines Airport. In 1945, after Japan's surrender, U.S. troops landed here to repatriate Japanese nationals who had been living inancouver since 1941; many of these residents still live within their original neighborhoods today
