Pasco is a small town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Pasco-Wahkiwa River and is part of the Wenatchee-King County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Pasco was Nicholas Goodin in 1851. Goodin named his land "Gowen" after his father-in-law John Gowen of Boston, Massachusetts. In 1855, Charles Willing bought from Goodin and developed what would become known as Willing's Landing. The community grew rapidly due to timber harvesting and fishing on the river. By 1880, there were over 100 residents living in Willing's Landing and Gowen Creek village had a population of 150 people. In 1902, King County purchased all of present day Pierce County from the Spokane Tribe for $6,000 cash plus 5% interest on each dollar paid up until it was fully paid off in 1907. On November 3rd that year, county commissioners voted to rename Pasco "Wenatchee" after then–Governor Of Washington George Bird Wenckley. The name change took effect on January 1st of 1908 when Wenckley arrived in Tacoma for an inauguration ceremony marking 50 years since Congress created Washington Territory from land acquired by Spanish explorers Hernando de Soto and Juan Rodríguez de Mendoza during their 16th century expedition downstream from modern Seattle Bayou (now Puget Sound). At that time all but 4 counties within Washington were designated territorial entities including King County which became Territorial District #2 under Governor James Cranch with boundary changes following his appointment September 25th 1889 as governor of all remaining western Washoe Counties including Tekapo Valley (now Yakima) & Puyallup Valley (now Snohomish), making Wenatchee also included within its boundaries as well as Skagit Valley (#3). During World War II many local businesses conducted military production such as planes made from aluminum or aircraft parts made from steel; munitions plants produced smokeless powder; shipbuilding yards built torpedo boats; foundries fabricated radios and other electronic equipment; etc., which resulted in high levels of pollution throughout the city limits due to manufacturing processes taking place near power plants along I-5 corridor adjacent to riversmouths where emissions came out into Puget Sound creatingozone calledWAHNEE©️
