Pasco, Washington is a small town in the Puget Sound region of Washington. The population was 6,859 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Thurston County and the western edge of King County. Pasco is bordered by Blaine to the north, Bainbridge Island to the east, Walla Walla to the south and west and Everett tothe northwest. The first Europeans to visit Pasco were fur traders in search of new routes through what is now Puget Sound. They arrived in 1792 and named it after Mount Baker, in present-day Oregon. The first permanent settler in Pasco was George Wigglesworth who built a log cabin on his land around 1800. Wigglesworth became one of Seattle's earliest landowners and also platted what are now parts of Bellevue, Tacoma and Olympia. In 1851, when Territorial Governor David Douglas assigned lands around Puget Sound for agricultural development, he selected Pasco as one of six townships within Thurston County for development. In 1862, when Congress created King County from part of Pierce County, Pasco became one of its original municipalities In 1865 local citizens organized an agricultural fair which drew attention from farmers throughout Washington Territory Construction began on what would become Seattle's first water supply system in 1869 – a gravity connection between two springs near where downtown now stands The area that includes Pasco became industrial as transportation improved with construction beginning on ferries across Elliott Bay in 1903 A deepwater port was developed at nearby Union Bay starting operations in 1911–12 resulteding in increased shipping traffic along Elliott Bay During World War II many businesses closed but they reopened soon afterward due to military production needs

However, during World War II, Pasco lost much of its population to military service and afterward experienced a decline in population. Today, the town has only a handful of residents remaining. The first European settlers in Washington arrived in 1847, when Captain John McLoughlin and his party traveled upriver from Vancouver Island to look for land for new colonists. They found some land but it was too rugged for farming so they abandoned it and journeyed back downriver to Canada. In September 1849, another group of Europeans set out from Seattle on horseback across what is now Lake Washington to find more land east of the Cascade Mountains. This group included Captain James Kintzler and his brother-in-law David Douglas. They discovered what is now Puget Sound and made their way upriver to where they would eventually settle at present-day Pasco. In November 1855, George Pasco set off fromSeattle with two oxen along with supplies for an upcoming day's travel into British Columbia (now Canada). The trip proved difficult because of strong winds which knocked them off their path multiple times and caused them great hardship; ultimately they reached their destination safely but with little cash or food available aside from what they had carried themselves.) On October 6, 1857, Pasco founded what would become Pasco County when he donated 640 acres (248 ha) including all that is now downtown Paschoaland to the State of Washington for $1 per acre ($14 per km2). At that time there were no towns or villages within modern-day Pierce County other than Colville which was chartered on January 10, 1861 by Governor Isaac Stevens pursuant to an act passed by the State Senate on December 5th following proceedings at Olympia where delegates had met to discuss possible boundaries for both counties following King’s request that “the Territory be divided into several districts according as may seem most proper” A bill submitted by Senator Hager Investigating Territorial Affairs proposed adding Chelan Valley as part of Whatcom county while Kaukauna Valley was proposed within Thurston County but these proposals were not accepted due primarily to opposition raised by Salmon Pee Dee Tribe members who felt those valleys should remain part of Chelan County under their own governance while neighbor Tacoma should have equal representation therein.) It wasn't until after passage by the House on May 17th – over Speaker Anson Simpson's objections – that legislation authorizing creation of Pierce County became law passing 221–191.(See also: History Of Pierce County)) On July 1st 1860 George Worthy purchased 640 acres (248 ha) adjoining present day Spokane Valley from William Murdoch for $4 per acre ($24 per km2). Thereafter Worthy began developing this property which would eventually become known as Waco Field east of Spokane Falls starting with his purchase of 134 acres (50 ha) covering parts today called Dairy Land northwest corner lot #6 & southeast corner lot #7 . soon afterwards he began selling portions heretofore unoccupied lots located near current running water source Springberg Creek & northeast corner lot #8 . The Pasco Indian Reservation was established in 1881 as the first reservation in Washington Territory. The reservation served the Yup'ik people, who were originally from Alaska. In 1907, the government of Washington created Yakima and Matluk reservations in response to a demand for land by Yakima and Matluk tribesmen who had been forced off their traditional lands in Siberia by Russian explorers. The two reservations were combined into one in 1912.
