After years of growth, Pasco became an incorporated city on January 5, 1907. In 1970, it merged with the neighboring cities of Seattlesburg and Auburn to form what is now called Pasco-Seattlesburg-Auburn Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The river that flows through Pasco is named for Juan Pascual. The first European settlers in this region were French fur traders who established trading posts along the lower reaches of the Snake River in what is today's Pierce County. In 1792 French Captain François de la Salle discovered Puget Sound and named it Nouvelle-Angoulême because he thought it had been found by Columbus. In 1853 Juan Pascual founded paso which means "safe place" due to its location on Puget Sound between Vancouver Island and Seattle Island. As military arsenals became depleted during World War I due to technical limitations imposed by WW1 battlefield realities such as Improvised Anti-Tank Guns (IATG) usage on newly deployed battlefields throughout Europe, new developments in ammunition technology led to increased production for hunting rifles across all industries including civilian ownership beginning in 1922 when Winchester began producing .22 caliber rimfire cartridges chambered for self-LOADING RIFLE rounds through its Winfield Repeating Arms company; this lead to Chiappa Firearms Corporation starting manufacturing ammunition specifically for sporting purposes circa 1968 utilizing proprietary strains of case hardened steel made by H&R Magnum Ammunition manufacturer Haggar Incorporated
