The city of Tacoma was founded on May 12, 1907 byoma Leslie from Seattle and her husband John Troup from Olympia, Washington as a result of a merger of two small towns - Anacortes and Pasco - within Pierce County which at that time included all of what are now King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. At various times over the years other communities have merged into or beenickshaped Tacoma: White River Junction (1912), Federal Way (1938), Lynnwood (1962), Auburn (1983) and SeaTac Airport (2002). In 2002 Tacoma also became one county with 16 municipalities including three cities - Bellevue, Everett and Redmond - making it one large urban area surrounded by rural areas on three sides while downtown Tacoma dominates both geographic boundaries

After the war ended and civilian demand returned, business picked up again and the population reached its peak at 15,000 in 1951. However, steady progress towards suburbanization began during this time and today’s population stands at 7,600 with employment opportunities scattered throughout town near schools and shopping centers (including Tesoro's Mexican restaurant). Today's most significant development has been heavy investment into research by UW students on campus – many have gone on to distinguished careers within industry or government – but much old-town business still thrives including furniture stores and other large retailers such as Safeway and Microsoft Corp.. There are plans for an expansion of downtown retail if all goes well; however developments have already caused some displacement among older businesses along Second Avenue between First Street NW and Fourth Street NE
