In 1875 Joseph Fenton acquired 640 acres (27 square miles) of what is now known as downtown Pasco from Captain John Stevens for $10 per acre ($ ). He donated this tract of land known as Gadsden Hill which later became part of downtown Pasco Park district. This event signaled beginning efforts by Pacific Northwest businessmen and entrepreneurs looking to establish themselves within their new territory during what would become one of America's largest manufacturing regions during the Progressive Era. A group including Fenton formed the First National Bank at 3rd Avenue and Harrison Street which handled loans for businesses located along Harrison Street between Tacoma and Seattle Streets NW also saw development with many small stores opening up along these streets offering services such as dry goods storage, banking and even carpenters' supplies until 1922 when North American Tobacco started its long process of redevelopment that finally made all these buildings obsolete creating One Microsoft Place today! It wasn't until 1902 when H C Hanna & Co opened up shop at 5th Avenue Northeast and NE 46th Street making it one stop on Puget Sound transportation before becoming Anaconda Copper Mines competing against Socony Morgan Stanley who built their own copper smelting plant adjacent to Anaconda Lake just south east today! After less than 20 years business closed due clding environmental concerns about arsenic being released into Riverina Creek from nearby hills! This law established Oregon Valley College (now Puget Sound University) in Pasco with a mission to teach Indians how toadvantageously use their natural resources while still retaining their culture and ways of life. This act also authorized Tacoma School District No. 5 to build a school in Pasco which opened September 9th, 1852 with sixty students and four teachers under the direction of Isaac Hildebrandt who had come from Tacoma to be superintendent of education for Pierce County; it was Henry Kendall who built Pacific High School in 1907-1908). In 1959-1960 Gustavus Adolphus Wright Elementary School was built adjacent to Pacific High School as part of President Eisenhower's Elementary Schools Program which provided opportunity for more rural schools within urban areas throughout America through cooperative educational efforts such as these types of programs.) In 1890s there were two lumber mills operating here – Pioneer Mill and McKay mill – but by 1910 all mills had closed down due to competition from other logging regions in the Northwest during that period called "the Great Depression".
