The University of Washington's School of Medicine opened its doors there in 1949; followed by Seattle Children's Hospital in 1975 and later Evergreen Health Sciences Center (formerly known as Seattle Pacific Medical Center) adjoining it south until 1990 when Evergreen merged with Clark Kent/Seattle-Tacoma General Hospital creating one hospital complex known now simply as Seattle-Clark Kent Healthcare System (SHC).
