Swivels were first patented in Olympia, Washington on October 15, 1892. In that patent, a man named Arthur S. Swivel submitted an invention for a new type of firearm muzzle brake which could be rotated to adjust the angle of fire. The patent was granted to him and his brother-in-law, Harold Davenport. The first firearms manufacturer in Olympia was located at 9th and Jefferson Streets and they manufactured both rifles and shotguns using the Swivel device. It wasn't until 1916 that the company moved to its current location on 12th Street SW. The Swivel muzzle brake remained popular into the 1920s and 1930s due to its ease of use and its ability to rotate it 360 degrees. In 1934, George Ahern purchased the company from Harold Davenport. George Ahern continued production of firearms utilizing the Swivel device until he sold it to Wesson Firearms Corporation in 1955. That same year, Wesson Firearms Corporation merged with Colt Industries, Inc., creating one of America's leading firearms manufacturers.

In the early 1800s, Olympia was a small town in Washington. The town had a few settlers and some Indians. In 1851, Olympia became the capital of Washington Territory. The first Territorial Legislature met here in 1861 and the first Territorial Executive Council met on January 3, 1863. On February 14, 1865, the Organic Act of Oregon was passed by the United States Congress and it created Oregon Territory including Olympia.

Olympia was first settled by Native Americans in 1853 and become an incorporated city in 1907. The land that now makes up Olympia was first inhabited by the Puyallup tribe before they were driven out by settlers in the mid-19th century. The area around present-day Olympia has been inhabited for at least 10,000 years and may have been home to as many as 25 different cultures including Tlingit, Chinook, Suquamish and Wahkiwara people. In 1853, residents of nearby Deschutes County decided to establish a new community called "Olympia" due to its proximity to both Puget Sound and Lake Union; it would be the first town on what is today Klickitat County. By 1907, there were only 8 residents living in what is now downtown Olympia; however, with growth along Interstate 5 (the main north-south route through central Oregon), downtown soon grew large enough for incorporation into what is now Klickitat County as an organized city on October 1, 1907 under the name "Olympia." Under Mayor Clyde Wickersham's leadership – who also served as county sheriff from 1951 until his retirement in 1986 – development quickly increased outside of downtown while limiting local control within limits still remaining within Municipal District 2E which included all but eastern half of Klickitat County except those parts east of Interstate 5 near Everett and Bellingham where annexation had become more expedited throughdensity bonuses offered by then Governor John Castor Jr.. Development choices during this time period reflected growing concerns about access to water resources essential for farming industry while also promoting growth opportunities via early Urban Redevelopment Authority bonds authorized when King George VI established Mandatory Housing Authorities throughout most British possessions following World War II which aimed to create modern neighborhoods without displacement or demolition techniques used during previous eras such as clearance raids during gold rush days when families were forcibly evicted from their homes without Notice or hearing process traditional among Native American Tribal leaders prior thereto Many individuals associated with Mayor Wickersham's administration found success in developing mixed-use redevelopment projects adjacent First National Bank Building located at NE 192nd Street & S Columbine Avenue later known as Safeway store complex redeveloped between 1990s - 2000s managed by Bend Management Company
