By 1830, most of Seattle had moved out westward and incorporated as Kittitas County; Olympia remained unincorporated until 1861 when it became part of Seattle under territorial jurisdiction. In 1865, King Code granted $250 for each acre (4 square kilometers) lot sold to build railroads through Puget Sound; this led to rapid growth for Tacoma and elsewhere along the route southward as railway towns sprang up all over America during that period. In 1872 King Code designated Olympia as the county seat; by 1886 its population was 100% white AngloSaxon Americana.. The area surrounding downtown since then has been primarily African American with few residential buildings remaining aboveground pre-recession levels (below 2000). Development outside of downtown followed suit during this time but has not always been consistent with traditional patterns within town boundaries or suburban sprawl beyond them There have also been efforts to redevelop areas north/west of downtown into mixed use developments including commercial uses adjacent to KeyArena while certain neighborhoods east/north of town are struggling economically despite numerous new homes being built there over recent years due largely to tax breaks available through local government policies favored by mayor Tim Burgess . However these types of initiatives typically face opposition from preservationist groups who see these types OFDCD redevelopment plans as an attempt by developers to gentrify neighborhoods they do not want developed – further exacerbating neighborhood concerns about displacement and loss their historic character

Olympia, Washington is a small town in the state of Washington. The population was 9,491 at the 2010 census. The town sits on the west bank of the Columbia River and is bordered by Interstate 5 to the south and east, and Puget Sound to the north. It is part of the Wenatchee-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first settlements in what is now Olympia were made up of Native Americans who hunted deer, turkey, and other game in what is now downtown Olympia. The mainstay of their economy was fishing until white people arrived in 1854 when they built a logging camp on Lake Pend Oreille for timber production. In 1865, Lewis and Clark passed through Olympia on their way from Portland to Seattle. They noted that there were no towns or villages along the riverbanks and speculated that this may be because there had never been an attempt to settle here permanently given its strategic location between two major riverside valleys. In 1872, John Wesley Guthrie surveyed land around what is today Olympia after purchasing it from local Indians for $2 per acre (estimated value at that time). He named his new community "Guthrie" after himself. By 1888, Guthrie's settlement boasted a post office, schoolhouse, storeroom, corrugated iron fence line separating his property from neighboring farms/homes, smokehouse/canteen (now an art museum), blacksmith shop (now home to a restaurant), carpenter shop/lumberyard (now home to an antique store), hotel (now defunct) and five residences: Mrs. Akeley's boarding house; Mr., Mabee's; Purdy's; Armstrong's; and Hitchcock's." That same year also saw completion of Tacoma-Everett Railway which connected Tacoma with Everett via land east of present day Olympia Landing Boulevard NE where today’s Roosevelt Road meets I-5 just south of Thurston High School
