Oak Harbor is a small town in Douglas County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,398 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kalispell, MT Micropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was originally named "Oak Harbor" after two oaks that grew near the original homestead on the site. The name was changed to its current form in 1903 when businessmen from nearby Stevens Point developed a wood pulp mill there and decided to call their new mill "Oak Harbor" for lack of any other available names. Oak Harbor's history can be traced back to 1853 when John Morse built a log cabin on what is now Oregon Street in what is now Oak Harbor. In 1864, American Civil War veteran and settler David Dudley purchased land east of Oregon Street and began developing it into a township. In 1904, businessman Julius Cramer bought land west of Oregon Street and gave it the name of his company town - Oak Harbor Township Incorporated In 1916, the post office moved to its present location on Main Street within sight of Today's High School which had been built as a result of a merger between two smaller communities - Harborside (now known as Kitsilano) and Northshore (now known as Downtown). In 1946, local farmers established an agricultural cooperative which became one of the largest farming operations in Douglas County until it closed in 1984. The cooperative provided marketing services for local farmers' markets throughout Douglas County while also growing crops such as hay and potatoes for sale to surrounding communities. Until recently, Elmendorf Brewing Company produced its own beer only for distribution within Douglas County- however change has come about with plans by Anchor Steam Brewery & Distillery to produce craft beers outside of Douglas County beginning Fall 2019 . This will allow Elmendorf Brewing Company more control over quality standards & ingredients used in their beers making them distinct from larger breweries who may have less control over these matters

Oak Harbor is a small town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Everett–Tacoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Oak Harbor" originated from an account by Julius Caesar of an oak that grew on a farmstead in the area and which he called Arcturus. The first settler in Oak Harbor was Moses Hicks in 1853. The first store was built on West Seventh Street in 1903. In 1911, Oak Harbor had a post office and two schools: one for boys and one for girls. A sawmill was built east of town in 1912 and operated until it burned down in 1926; the mill village still stands to this day as part of downtown Oak Harbor. In 1916, Count Russianoff established his logging company along US Highway 99W near what is now Eastlake Avenue; he named it Yakima Timber Company because his father had done the same thing years before with a logging company called Russian River Logging Company Inc. Yakima Timber Company became one of largest timber companies ever organized and exported logs over 100 miles from its mills throughout Western Washington into British Columbia until it merged into Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd., Canada's largest railway company, in 1948. In 1926, when Oak Harbor voters approved annexation by Tacoma City (now Tacoma), local businessmen petitioned the state government to annex more towns within Kitsap County so that they could build larger cities without having to compete with Tacoma City for jobs or tax breaks; however, no action was taken because Tacoma City's incorporation as a city would have violated state law prohibiting municipalities from forming together without double taxation (a policy upheld by the Supreme Court). In 1959, Seattle-based Boeing Aircraft Corporation opened its first factory outside of North America at what is now Sea-Tac Airport; construction began on what became Boeing Field and continued until 1992 when it closed after production rates were cut back due to recessionary forces around the world combined with increased competition from Japanese auto manufacturers such as Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.. Today only parts of Shuttleworth Road remain standing while most buildings have been demolished or replaced by modern housing developments since then - including much of Sunrise Drive - making Duck Bay Park (site of former Boeing Field) all that remains today about what once constituted Emerald Lake Golf Course & Marina located just west of Sunrise Drive where live oaks used to line both shores prior to development taking over much of that waterfront property currently occupied by CenturyLink Field/Bellevue Hospitality District Northwest Inc... As well as businesses adjacent thereto such as KFC/rcar/, Barnesand Noble bookstore etc., making this significant remnant one last gasp remaining piece o' history available to view & enjoy today should you find yourself wandering through our otherwise unremarkable community center district during any given day or week...
Oak Harbor was first settled in 1851 by the Howell family. The town was named for Captain John Oak Harbor, an American Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Northwest Company, who arrived in Puget Sound in 1792. In 1851, the town was organized as a township and was renamed after Captain Oak Harbor.
