Oak Harbor, Washington is a town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The town was named for Captain James Fenton Oak Harbor and his family who settled there in 1859. The first settler in what is now Oak Harbor was John Dickson who arrived in 1859. A post office called "Oak Harbor" was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1916 the name change to "Holmes". The first store opened on Adams Street where it remains today. In 1938 the first bank opened with $10 worth of notes from Tacoma and Olympia banks and it continues to provide banking services to residents today. During World War II Holmes served as an airbase for Boeing while also providing housing for workers during the war years which helped contribute to its growth over the years including a new hospital built in 1957 which still offers outpatient services today. Additionally Holme has been home to several businesses that have continue operating such as Applebee's restaurant (now known as Comet Ping Pong), Microsoft Windows factory (now known as Kaiser Permanente) and Starbucks Coffee Company- both before and after their purchase by Amazon customers.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holmes_(town_in_Kitsap_County,_Washington) There have been many changesover time related to Oak Harbor since its incorporation into Kitsap County but some of the most well-known include: In 1958 when Kamehameha Schools opened their new campus near Holmes Beach;https://www2australianpspimages1australianpmc10000000004ebe5b90000001d6f00faeb00004d0dded000000000001 this led to much speculation about what would happen next due largely to Wanamaker’s department store having closed down just 3 blocks away across state street from downtown Seattle – one of Seattle’s most iconic shopping destinations at that time.
