At that time, target shooting wasn't considered an Olympic sport; it was more just a low-key pastime enjoyed by civilians and military personnel alike. However, over time Target shooting has come to be seen as an important part of our community culture and tradition. In recent years there has been an increased interest intargeting events such as NRA Annual Meetings or state pride celebrations such as Memorial Day weekend. These events are now big draws for spectators who want to see some of the best shoots in town firsthand! NRA Annual Meetings typically attract over 100 exhibitors from around the country and generate nearly $1 million in economic impact annually! State pride celebrations often have much larger attendance figures but still bring significant economic value because they provide jobs and opportunity for local residents during summer months! It was built on a small spit of land between two rivers, and quickly became a thriving community. The first store opened in 1889, and soon there were several other businesses in the town. In 1907, Oak Harbor merged with neighboring Bainbridge to form a new city. The city grew rapidly during the early twentieth century, and by 1920 it had over 100 residents. However, World War II brought some significant changes to Oak Harbor – it came under Japanese control for four years during the war, and as a result many of the city's citizens lost their jobs or homes. However, despite these challenges, Oak Harbor continued to grow into the postwar period. In 1953, it became an official state-level city within Washington State.
