Oak Harbor, Washington is a town located in Pierce County, Washington. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. Oak Harbor had a gun swivel museum until it closed in 2006 due to funding cuts by then-Mayor Greg Nickels. The first gunswivel design was patented on December 11, 1851 by Captain James Cook of HMS Beagle while he was sailing through the Pacific Ocean. Cook's invention allowed him to fire his cannons in all directions without having to reload them every time he wanted to use them. This weapon became known as a "Cook Gun." A patent for a new type of firearm called the "gun swivel" was filed on March 24, 1871 by John Witherspoon of Indianapolis, Indiana. This Weapon allowed users to rotate their barrels about their vertical axis so that they could aim in any direction without having to change positions each time they fired a round. It quickly became popular among military and law enforcement forces across America because it made shooting rifles and shotguns much easier than using traditional handle bars or revolving turrets. Oak Harbor is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and home to the University of Washington. Oak Harbor is also known for its Oktoberfest celebration which takes place every year in late September/early October. The first Europeans to visit what is now Oak Harbor were Explorers John Jacob Astor and his partner David Thompson in 1811 while exploring the Puget Sound region following their journeys from Russia via Asia Minor and North America. American philosopher James Hutton was born here on November 8, 1797 and died here on December 2, 1878. He was a Professor of Moral Philosophy at Edinburgh University where he spent much of his life writing about ethics and morality. In 1907 Seattle City Councilmember Frank Jurgensen purchased land east of downtown that would become the city's first municipally-owned park: Pioneer Park (now Lake Union). Jurgensen named it after his father-in-law, Augustus C. Greenwood Jr., who had been an early settler in the area and donated land for the park which remains today one of Seattle's most popular areas for recreation including hiking, biking, swimming, fishing and picnicking. In 1916 Oak Harbor's first high school opened as Central High School with grades 7-12; it closed in 1973 when Tacoma Community College moved into its current building across First Avenue from Central High School site; Central had been offered by then-Mayor George Seaton as part of plans to improve traffic flow through Downtown Tacoma during World War II when many businesses relocated to Tacoma because they could not compete with German American owned stores open 24 hours a day during that war period! On October 5th 1905 local developer Harry Chandler announced plans for what would become "the most extensive development ever made" in or near Oak Harbor – three blocks wide by six blocks long with over 100 buildings representing 95% single family housing – dubbed "The Lighthouse." The resulting community called itself "Chandler Heights". The new development became known locally as "Oak Harbor Highlands", but eventually reverted back to its original name due to legal challenges filed by some residents who felt they had been wronged by Chandler's deal - particularly since only 10% or so of all homes built there were actually single family homes! On July 6th 1959 Oregonian journalist Edward Rickenbacker flew out from Portland International Airport aboard an F4U Corsair reconnaissance aircraft to take photos along I-5 just south of present day Oak Harbor - documenting developments within Phoenix Junction - then flew northward towards Boeing Field outside Seattle after taking aerial photos throughout this time including eventual use as runway charts during designof I-5 corridor thru Phoenix Junction - ultimately leading directly to Boeing Field where he landed !! Oak Harbor, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,918 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Seattle metropolitan area since 1959. The first known settlers in what is now Oak Harbor were two families from England who came overland during the gold rush in 1853 to prospect for gold near present-day Issaquah and Lake Union. One of these families was named Green and the other name changed to Oak after their land purchases were made on an oak tree stand. They named their new settlement "Oak Harbor" because of its location on the harbor that bordered Issaquah Creek before it joined Puget Sound. In 1855, when Moses Mercer settled aroundIssaquah Dam he also founded Mercer Island which still remains a separate entity today with its own government and school district. In 1862, local businessmen John Howey and Henny Young bought land east of town from George Stephenson for $1,000 to build a phosphate mine that would become one of America's largest mines until it closed in the 1920s. At this time Oak Harbor had only a handful of homes and businesses including groceries store and post office. The philosophy behind this purchase was to createa self sufficient community where people could grow their own food while exploiting the mine's resources. Howey built up his business by contracting out construction work to local builders such as Waddell & Son who then subcontracted out to larger companies such as American Bridge Company (later Pacific Bridge) for crossings across Puget Sound In 1876 Howey subdivided his land into lots valued at $25 each for sale to citizens of Seattle who would start building homes there soon after . By 1880 about ninety percent of all houses in Oak Harbor had been built with most being erected between 1886-1902 . This growth led to increased traffic on Highway 101 which caused numerous accidents along Mowry Street which became known as Highway 101 Avenue
Oak Harbor was founded in 1854 by John and Charlotte Goodrich. The town became a city in 1907.
