Oak Harbor is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington, United States. The population was 4,118 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima County seat and has a ZIP code of 99129. The first European to visit what is now Oak Harbor was Captain George Vancouver in 1792. He named it "Vancouver Island" because he saw a group of trees there that looked like Douglas fir trees back then. In 1824, John Siskiyou Expedition explored what became Yakima Valley and found many new settlements including Oak Harbor. On May 1, 1889, US Commodore James Woolridge anchored his flagship USS Olympia at anchor off the mouth of the river called Shinnecock Bay in order to explore the Sound region which lay between Puget Sound to the north and Vancouver Island to the south. The town's rich history began with its beginnings as an agricultural community during World War II when Japanese-American internment took place in nearby Hanford City. The local grocery store, Mrs. Briggs' Grocery, became one of only a few stores open during those difficult times for civilians and soldiers alike due to government restrictions on commerce within concentration camps run by American forces during World War II throughout most of North America. After 1945, Oak Harbor slowly regained some lost business from prohibition days long ago though much has changed since then such as annexations by other towns in neighboring counties over time resulting in decreased populations for both towns combined until about 10% remains today (2009 estimate). Today's economy largely revolves around agriculture with businesses involved in everything from cattle ranching to lumber production; however there are also several service companies providing goods and services needed by residents within or outside of town limits all while still being majority agricultural based with no less than 7 active farms/ranches operating currently outskirting any incorporated municipality located within 60 miles either side making it one if not THE most agriculturally diverse town per capita on Earth!

Oak Harbor is located in Kitsap County, Washington, on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The town was founded in 1892 by James Forrest and his wife Nellie. It became a census-designated place in 1977. In 2000, Oak Harbor had a population of 33,021. In 2010, the population was 36,898. The first humans to live here were the Haida people who arrived during the 17th century from Siberia. They built their homes up around Point Wilson Island before moving southward and settling near what is now Tacoma. The first European to come through this area was Captain John Cook who landed on Puget Sound in 1799 and named it "Hornethin's Land." In 1892 James Forrest opened a grocery store and post office at the junction of U.S.-Canada Highway 2 and State Route 5A (now State Route 99). In 1914 he started marketing apples as part of his country store business which grew into an empire that included stores throughout Washington state including one at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field. In 1927 Forrest donated land along State Route 99 for commercial development which would become known as Renaissance Park which includes today's downtown core with its numerous shopping malls, restaurants, theaters and art galleries as well as several large churches/mosques dating back to early days when this area served primarily Native American religious ceremonies! Developers quickly came to appreciate Forest's many years of experience developing rural areas - they built roads and utility lines while also plowing over ancient woodland making way for new residential neighborhoods! During World War II most oak harbor residents worked along military bases such as Fort Lewis or Naval Station Kitsap where shipbuilding took place but some residents did remain behind after hostilities ended to help rebuild society following the war . One resident who lived through both wars is Lester Postman who today remains active with local organizations working towards preserving First Amendment rights

In 1865, the district of Tacoma was established within Northwest Territory, and Oak Harbor became its capital. From 1871 until 1975, it served as the seat of county government for Snohomish County, Washington.
