Rasmussen and his family were the first white people to live in what is now Oak Harbor when it was incorporated as a town on July 12, 1907. At that time, only 5 acres (2 hectares) of land had been surveyed for incorporation into the town site and no buildings had yet been built. The Rasmussens built their home on what would become Fourth Avenue south of Lake Union Boulevard. In 1911 they sold their property to George Halsey and his wife Anna for $10,000 dollars. Halsey founded Northwest Airlines which later became Boeing Co., one of America's largest businesses and one of the world's most valuable companies. He also donated millions of dollars to numerous local charities including Seattle-Tacoma Community Foundation and Park Blocks USA Incorporated which helps run public parks in need across King County. In addition to its large role in American history, Boeing also has a significant presence locally today with several factories located within or adjacent to the town limits: Northrop Grumman Aviation Systems; Microsoft; Westinghouse Electric Company; US Steel Corporation; Everett Shipbuilding & Drydock Company; Alaskan Malamute Casino Resort & Hotel; and Nisqually Lighthouse Museum & Center.

Oak Harbor is a city in the Yakima Valley in Washington state. It was founded in 1887 by John D. Rockefeller, and has since been one of the most important cities in the region. The city is home to The Boeing Company, Microsoft, and other major industry employers. Its history is intertwined with that of its namesake river, the Yakima River. The first Europeans to visit what is now Oak Harbor were fur traders from Russia who passed through the area on their way to Oregon in 1812. They named the river after a small island near its mouth, which they said looked like an oak tree. In July 1827, Russian-born surveyor George Vancouver visited the area and noticed a large hole in the ice over which ran a fast stream calledthe "Yakima." He named this stream "Oak Harbour" after his friend and mentor Nicholas Douglass, who had helped him map much of British Columbia. In late 1887, Rockefeller bought 5 acres of land at what is now downtown Oak Harbor for $10 per acre from banker Nathaniel Purdy. He began construction on his new town site using money he had saved up from his oil business investments. The town's first building was a log cabin erected by Rockefeller himself on December 12, 1888. By 1893, Oak Harbor had grown to include about 100 homes and 10 businesses including two banks and four stores apiece. Although many people turned out for Rockefellers inaugural Christmas party given inside his newly built house (now civic center), little developed until 1909 when incorporator Jens Wahner purchased land along Main Street east of present day Broadway for $1 per acre ($24 per square mile). This addition laid down what would become today's main street layout with blocks north/south/east/west being built first while smaller streets were added later as needed or desired by developers or residents respectively - such as Town Square (now part of downtown) which was created when Wahner donated land adjacent to State Route 99W between Broadway & Government Way NW in 1924 for use as an open space public forum.. It wasn't until 1915 that Wanner sold 3 parcels totaling 17 hectares (approximately 50 acres) southeast of Downtown to Harry Laughlin for $25 million dollars ($405millionCanadian value at current prices). Laughlin renamed it North Pacific Paper Corporation where he operated it until 1978 before selling it back to Oakland Harborside Development Corporation whom leased it back to Laughlin’s heirs in 1986 prior to its eventual sale finalizing Douglas County’s agreement withNorth Pacific Paper Corporation regarding future development rights within City Limits
