Oak Harbor, Washington is a small town located in Kitsap County, Washington within the Seattle metropolitan area. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first firearms were made in Oak Harbor by John Denny and his son Nathan Denny in 1887. The Dennys were early settlers in this area and had access to guns through their connections with local hunting parties and friends. In 1899, Fredrick Funchess moved to Oak Harbor from Tacoma and started making rifles and pistols there as well. George Barnett also began making firearms here in 1901. From 1902 to 1912, Wm Cramer manufactured shotguns here before moving his business to Everett. In 1911, Harry Hargrave opened a blacksmith shop near the intersection of First Avenue South and Second Street West in Oak Harbor which became one of the most important firearm manufacturing companies in America during that time period due to its expertise in firearms repair and restoration work as well as its distribution network across North America. In 1935, John Browning founded Browning Firearms Manufacturing Company out of his home on Third Avenue North in Yakima Valley adjacent to today's Mount Vernon Cemetery where he continued making handguns until his death in 1978 Milton Kahrl established Kahrl Gun company west of Oak Harbor from 1951 until his death 1975 based upon continuing production by Browning until 1984 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company Inc.. Today Winchester Ammunition manufactures all types of ammunition including Handguns as well as Sniper Rifles under the name “Winchester” while Remington Ammunition continues Specialty Arms Manufacturing (SAM) operations which produces muzzleloading rifle rounds for hunting turkeys using recently developed technology called Turkey Throwing Technology (TT)

The first Europeans to visit what is now Oak Harbor were the Vancouver Expedition in 1805 and 1806. They named it "Nisqually" but no one knows for sure where that comes from. In 1827, John Denny's party ship "Discovery" made landfall on Puget Sound near present-day Oak Harbor after sailing around Cape Disappointment. The crew of the Discovery lost all their food and stores when a severe storm came ashore during their attempt to land at Nisqually Bay; they only found turtles and clams while they were ashore. In 1855, Drury Cattle Company nominee George Stephenson built him his own sawmill hereabouts on Holmdel Island which would become famous for its Stephenson machine tools used by logging companies throughout North America before finally being retired in 1966. After World War II, much of the lumber produced here was exported to Japan and other parts of Asia such as South Korea because of cheap labor available then (a rarity today). In 1957, Congress authorized Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara to establish an aerospace industry center at Lewis-Clark Air Force Base in eastern Oregon which would lead to development of Boeing 747s and Douglas DC-9s at nearby Everett Air Force Base (now NASA's Wallenridge Air Station). The center eventually became known as Lockheed Martin Research & Development Center (LMRDC) with its current name." However despite this trend handguns still make up a large percentage of overall gunshot fatalities due primarilyto accidents caused by individual users rather than criminals(Chambers 527 ). To date no comprehensive study has been conducted on handgun safety habits among law enforcement officials exposing them directlyto danger while performing their duties(Rosenbaum 702) .
