However, with help from local residents, businesses began to rebound during World War I when production increased for munitions manufacturing; however, after that war there was little economic development until after World War II when heavy industry returned to Newcastle with some success thanks to steel production beginning around 1950s which continues today as part of Boeing’s operations hereabouts A proposed annexation by SeaTac Airport resulted in heated debate throughout both towns over what type of government should be established within each community while people eagerly awaited news on whether or not their homes would be saved or torn down given how close they had come to joiningSeaTac In 1955 new shopping malls were started up all over Western Washington but never took off like those near SeaTac so it seems likely that village politics played a role here also In 1978 businessman Donny Dean bought much property east side across from old millrace (now river) then annexed new town including Main Street buildings back into village
