Newcastle, Washington is a small town located in Yakima County, Washington. The population was 2,842 at the 2010 Census. It is part of the Wenatchee–based Puyallup Valley census area. Newcastle is home to the Newcastle-Mt. Rainier School District and the Newcastle Methodist Episcopal Church. The first permanent settler in what would become Newcastle was John Wesley who arrived in 1847. In 1853, James McKay built a log cabin on an unbroken ridge that runs northeast-southwest from present-day Newcastle east to west and northwest to south. This ridge became known as " McKay's Ridge." In 1860, Jno. Henshall platted what would become Newcastle on his lot located southeast of present day Rochester Hills for $5 per acre ($27 at current prices). He named his new town after his friend and neighbor James McKay who had come to live there in 1849 when he founded the Hayden Canal Company near Seattle with fellow pioneer Niles Eldredge and David Sibley. Henshall also donated land for a church which was completed in 1862 and dedicated by Bishop George McNutt of Spokane Falls with services conducted by Revd Aiden Burns (a Presbyterian minister from Boston) and Revd Augustus Woodward (a Methodist minister from Tacoma). Henshall passed away in 1865 but his wife continued to run their business until her death about 1923; she was buried at nearby Maple Grove Cemetery. She left behind three children: Mrs Henson (1873-1957), Mrs Maynard (1877-1964), and Mr Henson Jr., who ran their mercantile business until 1957 when it merged with that of his father until its sale to The Waffle House Chain late in 1986; all three men were natives of Sunderland Township, Ontario Canada whence they emigrated shortly before World War II according to family lore; they returned after the war settled permanently hereabouts some time around 1949 or 1950 In 1870 Charles Goodyear established Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd., one of many businesses started by him along this same road later known as 10th Avenue NW where today's street name originated In 1916 Fred Ewing opened Fidelity National Bank which remains one of downtown Newcastle's most active branches today . By 1925 there were fifteen businesses operating out of four blocks between 10th Ave NW & First Ave NE including dry goods store Fidelity National Grocery Co.; millinery & Clothing Store Gwyneth Everett; restaurant Snelling’s; whorehouse Amsterdam Lane etc.; post office Newmarket Building - now State Capitol Annex . Today only two buildings still standing from those days—the old post office building on 11th Ave NW which served as a branch library during much of its years surviving into the early 21st century Heckman Drugstore across First Ave NE from bank closed down c1970 although product still available online Some nonresidential buildings remaining: Masonic Lodge No 1 Beasley Road SW corner 3rd St NE; Grange Hall on Park Rd SE corner 4th St NE original barn/gable roofed structure used for storage 1935-1960s school house built 1942 burned 1980s ; fire destroyed other district schools 1915-1920s

Newcastle, Washington was founded in 1847 by James Fenton and his wife, Sally. The town was named for the then-newport of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The town's first settler was John Dutton. In 1849, the town had a population of just 10 people. By 1870, Newcastle had a population of 150 people and began to grow rapidly. In 1889, Newcastle became an incorporated town with a government that consisted of a Mayor and six Aldermen. In 1907, the name of the city changed from Newcastle to Tacoma. In 1916, Tacoma annexed Newcastle and its residents voted to change their city charter to make it an all-city municipality. The growth of the Tacoma region led to increased demands on land in both New Westminster and Newcastle. By 1938, both towns had reached their maximum populations yet still lacked enough land on which to build more homes or businesses. This led to an idea for two new towns: North Seattle and South Seattle (later renamed Redmond). On February 22nd of that year, North Seattle incorporation papers were filed while South Seattle incorporation papers were filed on March 2nd due to lack of space in either town's archives! The merger finally happened on December 5th when both towns' governments merged into one entity under the name "Tacoma." Today few traces remain from the early days when Townsend County extended upriver from downtown Tacoma towards what is now Lake Washington Boulevard - only 4 buildings remain standing out from what once was a bustling commercial center: The Townsend Building at Third Street NE; Pemberton's mill across First Avenue NW; NorthSeattle Baptist Church near Westlake Boulevard SE; and Tacoma Methodist Episcopal Church (now known as CenturyLink Field) at Fourth Avenue SW just east of Interstate 5W! The economy in Townsend County during this time relied heavily on fishing and agriculture as well as lumbering which provided much needed income for those who lived within its boundaries
Newcastle was founded in 1851 by white settlers and was the first town in what is now King County, Washington. It grew quickly due to its location at the mouth of the Duwamish River, which made it an important trade center. The town became a resort during the late 1800s and early 1900s, with many people coming to live and work in Newcastle. The town also had a large black population at this time. In World War I, Newcastle played a key role in the battle against Japan. In 1945, after the war ended, Newcastle closed down for several years due to economic reasons. After reopening in 1951, it continued to grow rapidly until it reached its heyday as a small but thriving community.
