Newcastle, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area and is located on the Puget Sound shoreline between Bellevue and Issaquah. Newcastle was platted in 1851 when settlers from British Columbia arrived in what is now King County. The first post office was established in 1854, and Newcastle became a village in 1865. The town was named for George Newcastle, a settler who had come to the region in 1847. In 1889, Newcastle incorporated as a city under the name of Tacoma. On February 17, 1907, however, Tacoma reincorporated as an independent city after being rejected by its own government. The first airmail service to be organized serving southern Washington began takeoff from Newcastle on September 8, 1928 with two flights daily carrying mail between Seattle and Tacoma
